They finished their water. Jardan stood with his arms crossed and stared at her as though looking for direction. Callie didn’t move but let him think. Then he motioned for her to sit down.
“Let’s connect again with the earth without trying to manipulate it.”
“Okay. What do I do?”
Jardan put his hands on the stone underneath them. “Put your hands on it.”
She complied and felt the coolness under her, but she also felt a slight vibration as she had when she had called on the energy. Callie looked down and saw the lines underneath her shimmer.
“Now focus on the stone. Listen to it. Don’t do anything with it. Just listen.”
With a nod, she closed her eyes and pushed her nervousness aside. It was only her and the stone under her. The hardness of it was cool. It felt good, and she sunk into it.
A distant scratching sound reached her ears. A soft thud echoed around her. A grinding sound seemed to reach out to her from miles away.
