I turned the phone around in my hands, to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, but the SIM port was completely empty. It requires a SIM ejector, and I had lost it after roughly two weeks of getting the phone. I was also sure I hadn't used a sharp needle like I always did. It had been ringing just last night, and I hadn't....wait. I walked slowly and sat at the far edge of the bed, remembering the events of the previous night. The phone had been ringing, I had been lying down, covering my face, then Tony jumped into my bed, I assured him it was fine, he bounded off, then...the phone had stopped ringing while Tony was on the bed. Right then, that Dog had looked at me, and the phone had stopped ringing. I swallowed. Do I need to cut his nails? I doubt his nails could get that pointed, though. Pointed enough to eject the SIM? Also, I didn't see him do it. I had been looking at him the whole time. I heard his barks from outside, he was out playing, and I needed to walk him. I stood up, grabbing some money so I could get a new SIM card on my way back. I headed out, turned and closed the door before something caught my eye. I reopened the door, and there, right on my dog's bed, was my missing SIM card. I felt shivers run down my spine, as I walked to the bed and kept close to it, picking the SIM card between my index and thumb. "How?" I mouthed, the shock prevalent. How did a SIM card firmly put in a phone that required a SIM ejector go out and land on my dog's bed? And at that, right after he came to my bed? What in the sorcery books of disbelief was happening? I couldn't help but think about the incident with the plates too.Tony had been there, too, and somehow even arranged it all within a second, without breaking even one plate. I sat on the cold floor, my mouth agape. What part of the puzzle was I missing? Tony's bark came again, and I picked myself up, and locked the door behind me, heading out.
I met Tony wagging his tail and jumping around, just outside the door. He was almost always that happy, and I adored it. "Hey, Little man," I said, kneeling beside him, and patting his hair, he looked up, his blue-grey eyes still as fascinating as it had been when i first met him.
I rubbed a bit, before pulling out the SIM card. "Tony, do you recognize this?" He simply stared at it. I shook my head. "How would you? I bet you don't even know what it is used for." I said, trying to convince myself more than I was saying it to him. I gave a big sigh, pocketing the SIM card and stood up. "Lets go." I said, and he willingly followed.
The walk was uneventful, and I took a turn on the street. I had slept for so long, and the sun was now high up in the sky, almost setting. "Tony, let's go home now and we'll eat." He panted, wagging his tail a bit, then turned around, almost hopping in the direction of home. I shook my head and pulled back, changing my mind. I would just pop into the mall and get some treats for myself and him. "No, Tony. We are not heading that way. Let's go to the mall and get new treats. I already brought some money for my SIM, but since I found it, let's treat ourselves." I expected him to be happy, he always was at the prospect of going to the mall. But now, he just hung his head for a while, not looking at me. "Tony?" He looked up, his eyes meeting mine and he looked almost apologetic. I wanted to contemplate why he looked like that, but before I could, he gave a small barking sound, then swiftly turned around and started to run, the sudden movement making me lose my grip on the fancy leash I made for him. "Tony!" He didn't stop, or even pause a bit to look at me, he just kept on running. I started to run after him, pushing myself hard to catch up with his crazy pace. Sometimes I wanna give him up for adoption. He was outside the door waiting for me when I got back home, panting and almost out of my breath. "Tony." He looked up, his eyes, big and cute. "I will rest, then we'll talk about what happened today." I checked for the keys, opened up the door and let him strut in in his normal proud gait. I always wondered how a dog could be proud, but mine was. And I guess that was part of the reasons that made him insanely unique.
I freshened up, my limbs recovering from the run. It had been such strenuous exercise for someone as lazy as myself, and I still haven't properly caught my breath. I was still breathing over the top, but the shower had done a lot of good. I decided to make brownies, the chocolate, good brownies, if you know what I mean, and some treats too. Tony has probably been too hungry to go to the mall, and that's why he had abandoned me like that. I thought dogs were loyal. The treats were all put together, the entire house smelt nice from baking, and I didn't realize that I had missed it till I felt it again. I turned on the TV just as the News Channel went on a short music break, I made myself, my snacks and my dog confortable next to me on the Couch, as I munched a brownie. Tony was making a satisfying growl since I had fed him well too. It was a perfect evening for me, until the short music break ended, and the News came back on. "We have the News for this evening, approximately three hours ago at about 16:00 hours. A small Mall situated in a New York city was invaded by armed men. The police nearby was informed by a discreet informant, which resulted in a sporadic shooting with no one in the mall leaving unharmed. The death toll is yet to be confirmed." Then a picture came on. The picture of the mall close to where I lived, where I had wanted to go to earlier, at about the same time. My mouth agape, my first instinct was to look at Tony. He was looking straight at me too, and I could swear, He had a "I told you so" look on his face.
