A strange, new world

In the three months leading up to the expedition, the captain really came to hate medical facilities, since this section of the ship produced the most tedious administrative work, which always had to be given priority, considering it's vital role. The room housing it was located near the end of Level 2, right before the cryo-storage. Sandwiched between these two locations was the Medical Warehouse, used to store extra medicine and equipment for the ward. The room used for this purpose took up approximately half of the corridor connecting the two chambers, but walled of and only accessible from the bay itself.

As the captain walked toward his destination, he was ambushed by Dr. Dezra Ming. As a full-blodded Selenian, psychic, geneticist and certified doctor she was an invaluable asset to this expedition. Or at least that was the official justification Natra gave when asking for a pardon to her, since in reality the girl was a convict, with her sole crime being the foundation of the Mobious Organization, a shady group of scientist known for thier "morally questionable" experiments, disbanded during a raid on thier main facility. As luck would have it, this made her the perfect candidate, when the captain was tasked to assemble a specialist team with the utmost secrecy. This is when he remembered to the good looking girl a grade above him, who always managed to creep out anyone with her unsettling questions or comments.

Selenians were a humanoid species, although most of thier features were very distinct from one. Almost all of thier body was covered in deep blue dragonscales, made out of a bone-like material. This material also covered thier hands, fusing with the skin, ending thier fingers with sharp claws, that can be used to seriously harm an someone in a close-up fight, often using a wide swipe to tear through multiple enemies. Thier heads resembled a raptor with an elongated skullback, and a crown-like appendage extending the length of thier head backwards, made out of bone.

Natra wanted to take his time to admire "certain features" of his colleague - namely her chest - but quickly snapped back to reality, when he remembered that what type of "research" she performed before her eventual capture. It was more than possible that getting to know her more "intimately" would be definitely sweet, but it would also lead him awakening on an autopsy table, as part of some very crazy, and definitely painful experiments. He began truly concentrating on the report, hoping that it will help him forget the gruesome images his mind conjured up.

So far they learned that the girl was an official in the "Adventurer's Guild", which - judging from it"s description - was some kind of international mercenary organization. According to the her, the place they managed to land was the Kingdom of Sallyria, a medium sized nation at the east edge of the Merian continent. It seemed like the country's power came from naval and land trade, supplying the continent with mythril and adamantite, either imported from overseas, or mined within the Kingdom itself. Incredibly the same metals, with the same name also existed back home as later confirmed, however in the absence of interplanetary mining or advanced fusion technology, here it was much rarer and much more valuable. In the topic of rare materials they also learned about "special ores", only found inside meteorites, and highly prized by people called "sorcerers".

When asked about these persons, Erina - thier prisoner - described them as powerful people using some kind of special force. Upon requesting further elaboration, the girl gave a demonstration by conjuring flames from her palm. At first Kryolis suspected psychic abilities behind the phenomenon, however according to Dr. Ming- who got involved at this point - she did not felt anything related or similar to her powers. The only logical conclusion was, that "magic" is something unknown at thier home, which presented a possible threat to the whole operation.

Commander Kryolis clearly did a good job, and - as the captain felt - him being there was more like a formality, rather than a necessity. He thanked Dr. Ming, trying his hardest to hide the constant chill in his body, while entering the medbay, still feeling the sharp gaze of the scientist behind him.
