Chapter 025 Going To America -3

Song Recommendation: You Should Be Sad by Halsey

"I swear you guys are lucky!" Yusuf moaned sorrowfully, as they continued to trek up to his house.

The girls laughed.

"The thing is still shocking me! Hee!", Eboh squealed as they climbed the steps to the front door.

"God! I wish I was in you people's department! Why didn't they take human medicine and leave you animal doctors behind?" He rolled his eyes.

"Evil witch! Trying to hold back our destinies", Delia laughed. Yusuf held the door knob and turned it slowly. The four stepped in.

"Mummy!!!" The girls squealed in excitement, spotting Yusuf's mother seated on the couch. They happily rushed to her arms, embracing her tightly.

"Aww, my girls!" She rubbed their backs. They stood up straight, staring down at her smiling face. Yusuf stepped to his mother's side, hugging her.

"Good evening, mummy", she nodded at him.

"Ha! We mummyed her first!" Beatrice stuck out her tongue at Yusuf. They laughed.

"Congrats girls, I heard you all will be travelling next week".

"By God's grace", they nodded.

"I'm so happy for you all. Yusuf was busy lamenting at home here, filled with jealousy when he heard the news", she pointed at her son, who had his arms crossed and scowling like a spoilt child.

They chuckled.

"Don't worry mummy, we'll manage to smuggle him in our bags. They won't see us coming", Delia joked, causing them to laugh.

Before Yusuf could retort, someone walked out through the kitchen door. They snapped their heads to the door; a bright smile grew on Yusuf's face.

"Cousin Halima!" He walked to her, throwing his arms around her. "I didn't know you'd be in town today", he held her shoulders smiling.

Smiling awkwardly back at her little cousin, Halima's eyes accidentally met Delia's. She froze. Delia — who had on the widest most genuine grin ever — stared dead into her eyes. Halima looked back at her cousin.

"How are you, Yus?"

"Fine!" Yusuf hadn't seen his cousin—who he grew up with like a sister—for more than four months. He was nothing but happy to see her.

"When did you return?" He inquired.

"Just hours ago", She patted his head, stepping to the side.

The three girls greeted, "Good evening, Aunty Halima!" Although she wasn't actually Yusuf's aunt, she carried herself highly. She had insisted from day one to be called 'Aunty' by anyone outside the family as a sign of respect.

She waved at them, smiling.

Delia couldn't contain her stretched lips. Halima avoided Delia's eyes, turning to Yusuf's mother, "Mummy, food will soon be ready, should I prepare the salad?"

"Of course, my dear!"

She nodded, walking back into the kitchen.

Yusuf turned to his mother, "Mummy, when is he coming?".

"He??" The girls asked, confused.

Yusuf's mother chuckled, "Yes, he. Halima's fiance. Ismail A. Lukman".

"So she has a fiance? Nice", Delia nodded. "How long have they been together, mummy?"

"A year now", Yusuf answer. She nodded with an innocent smile.

Mummy Yusuf continued, "He is coming over for dinner with his family this evening. It was suppose to be today but, they shifted it till tomorrow evening".

Halima walked in with a tray of food to set on the dining table. She locked her eyes down, feeling Delia's devilish glare on her back. She walked back into the kitchen.

"You people should go and have dinner now".

"Okay, mummy!" The four strode to the table, pulling off their bags and taking a seat.

Delia then got up, "Let me go and wash my hands, I'm coming". She walked to the kitchen door.

Entering the kitchen, she spotted Halima by the counter, slicing some salad. Delia walked to the sink with a warm smile on her lips.

"One year huh?"

Halima missed her finger with the knife's blade by less than an inch, snapping her head at Delia. She gulped softly. Delia turned on the tap, washing her hand unhurriedly.

"De– Delia... You–".

"Calm down, Aunt Halima, I haven't told anyone, and I wouldn't", Delia stated without looking at her.

Halima exhaled out of relief, holding her chest. She then heard Delia say, "Doesn't change the fact that what you did was far too disgusting".

She dropped her stare to the vegetables on the chopping board as Delia turned to look at her.

"Aunt Halima, I am not judging you with your sex life or whatever, I'm just stating facts. You are a hypocrite for pretending to be the only person with the ticket to heaven. And also a cheat. With all due respect, of course".

Halima bit her lips, not saying a word as Delia continued.

"But I'm curious, have you slept with Ismail? Your fiance?" Halima shook her head.

"Okay but, what will you tell Ismail when he finds out you're not virgin? Because it definitely wasn't anal sex I saw you having", Delia said nonchalantly.

Halima gulped, not answering immediately. She then sighed, "He thinks I was raped".

"Thinks?"

Halima scanned the board surface before saying, "I lost my virginity when I was still in secondary school... Before I met him. I just told him I was raped and he never questioned me after".

"But you weren't, right?" She shook her head sneerly.

Delia sighed heavily, pinching her forehead, "Let's forget religion here, you're just selfish and wicked! I hope you realize the weight of your actions before you ruin Ismail's life!"

Halima snapped her eyes at her.

"It's okay to be a none virgin, mistakes can be made. But a liar and a whore is another thing. How do you even feel looking into the eyes of a man you're cheating on, lying to him?"

"Continue, it will hit you hard when you finally want to settle down". Delia held a deep frown on her face, before wiping her hand and walked out of the kitchen.

Halima stood still in the kitchen with her head down and her hands shaking. Her eyes slowly began to water as the guilt in her chest grew. A tear dropped.

Meanwhile...

Delia took a seat next to her friends — Halima dashed out of the kitchen and rushed to the bathroom without stopping; palming her mouth not to let her cry be heard.

The four on the table, including Yusuf's mother, looked at each other then back at the door.

"What happened to her?" Yusuf asked in general.

"I don't know oo", his mother shrugged.

Still looking startled, Delia began to eat her food saying, "She said she has cramps. Maybe she may have stained herself, I'm sure that's why she ran like that". Delia shrugged.

"Ooo", they nodded, turning back to their foods. Delia smiled.
