Chapter 16: Campfires and Scythes

(May POV)

.... Where am I? I slowly rise awake to see the leopard guy from earlier. "Hm? Oh! You're awake!". I try to get up but wince as he lowers me back down. "I would suggest not moving. The Venom antidote was hard to get and make so take a second to rest.". I saw him walk out to his friends and start thinking. "I'm.... Gonna have.... A new pair of wolf.... Skin boots, when I'm done with him.".

*few hours later*

I sit up and walk over to them all around a campfire. I go and sit next to them as they go quiet. "Okay," I hear the leopard guy say as he sits down. "Let's play a game of 20 questions. Except each person only gets to answer one.". One of the girls goes first and says "Zira North-Wing. I'll go first.".

The Lion fish senses the chance and says to her "How do you know Emerald?".

"Me and Emerald 'were' friends. When I was young I got into trouble a lot and one time got grounded. Emerald sneaked into my bedroom and somehow we got along just fine. She taught me how to do everything that she did. And we were classmates until I moved. We had this huge.... Falling out of sorts, so we don't like each other that much.".

Zira then looked at Leopard and said "Why are you so calm about the situation?".

"Carter Knight. My turn. I'll say now that over the years I've had my fair experience with bad guys and their dumb bosses. Each one is unique in its own way. So with what I've seen I can tell that violence will only get them to act out more and become more noticeable and make brash decisions.".

Carter looks towards the Lion fish and says "What was the promise that you made?".

"Niki Pacific. Be prepared. When I was really young me and my brothers father.... passed. When that happened his ownership of the boots disappeared, and my mother made us a promise in exchange for one. We promised to never open the weapon vault and use any of them. And our mother promised to never use her venom.".

Niki looked towards the Magpie and he already knew. "How did you and Zira become friends?"

"June Nightingale. Might wanna get ready.... You see before me and Zira met crows and magpies had this big fight among each other. During the fighting many others died, getting caught in the crossfire. This gave corvids a bad reputation for being violent. When I met Zira she thought I was the same and even bullied me often. Over time we grew accustomed to each other and grew to be close friends.".

They then all looked at me and I stood up with my scales turning yellow.

"May Clear Scale! I'm uh.... When I first met boss it was around 3 years ago. Ace was with him at the time and I practically grew up as a thief. At first I thought he was a cool guy. Until he became.... Violent. So when I saw the chance I figured I could get both me and Ace out of there, but clearly I was wrong to trust him! Isn't that just great?!".

They all looked at me in disbelief until we all heard a boom. The others grab their weapons and Carter tells me "Stay put. This isn't your fight yet.".

{Carter}

Everyone was running into the fight with one objective: Find the dragon. "When will you guys give up?!" Carter said pulling out a stick to defend himself with. They were more relentless this time. "Don't leave me out of the fun!". The komodo Dragon. "Carter! We'll handle these three, go handle him!" June said attacking Darren.

Carter bolted towards him with his claws to try to hold out. Unknown to the two someone was sneaking over.

"Ah!" Carter said getting kicked down. "I can't wait to make a scarf outta y-". Before he could bring down his weapon, May got in front of him. "You want him, you gotta go through me first!". All he did was smile and swing down.... Nothing? They both looked up to see the scythe not moving. "AHHHHHH!!!!!!!". May's boss screamed in pain as he slumped to his knees and the scythe glowed.

The scythe the attached to May's hand and in a split second the handle was covered in green and purple stripes and the blade gleamed silver. The glow stopped as she held the scythe. "W- what did you do?! Why won't it listen?!". She smiled at the scythe as the blade disconnected into a chain connecting between the blade and handle.

"Guess I just proved wrong a very interesting theory.... The weapons bonds CAN be broken!!!!" May said as the scythe turned into two smaller ones. "Okay so how do I-". She gets shut up as she spins the chains and one blade burst into a purple flame and the other a green.

"Let's try.... THIS!" She says moving away from Carter and jumping up. She then attempted to do a flip causing the chains to wrap her in what would be best described as a spinning purple and green flame ball. She then rolls towards her boss and right before they impact stops. She unrolls and aims a fully formed scythe at him and turns red with rage.

"If I ever see you again.... I'll kill you, and Ace.". Her boss nods quickly and says "Got it! I'll never see you again!". She then smiles at that and her colors turn a crimson color. "You're right," She says lifting up her scythe. "W- wait!". "You never will see me again~". With one quick slice he goes flying back and she rushes to everyone else. "Who else wants a taste?!".

They all retreat and Carter goes over to her. "How?! The weapons bond is supposed to be permanent!" He says as they all examine the weapons. "And fire?! That's not something we've seen from the other ones yet!" June adds. "Guess that makes mine special!".

"DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Darren yelled in anger. They all sat down as Ace tended to his boss. "That color changing bitch blinded me!". Emerald wrapped up the area around his eyes and says "Well now we have to get a whole new weapon!". They then all here rumbling as the ground shakes and a deep voice booms out. "YOU LOST A WEAPON?!?!?!?!?!?". Darren looks around and says "Boss, let me explain-".

He then stops as a flame jet goes past him. "Go get the weapon from here and you're not leaving until you do!" It yells out. "The weapon from there is the War Hammer of Shattered Scales. Find it then head to neutral or you are dead!!!!!!!!!!".
