The sorcerer’s apprentice

Magnus looks at the smiling man sitting across from him, on a chair, he magically made appear out of fallen branches.

The man had called him his apprentice. (What exactly did he mean by that?) (Was he going to release him?)

He had also expressed his interest in saving his soul.

Magnus couldn't move a muscle. Never had he imagined that his own weapon would be turned against him someday.

The way the man expresses himself when he talked about him, made Magnus believe that maybe he could indeed be saved.

After all, the magic this witch no, wizard, possessed was beyond anything Magnus had ever seen.

Finally deciding there was nothing he could do other than listen. The man nods his head. A sing he's willing to listen.

Seeing him nod his head the man makes the rope turn back into the sword it once was. Nor surprised by his magic anymore, Magnus asks.

"What do you mean when you say I'm going to be your apprentice?"

"Exactly how it sounds. You'll be my apprentice. I will teach you magic and together we'll change this land and later on the world as a whole."

Magnus's eyes widened in surprise. Full of excitement he asks?

"You mean I'll be learning how to do things like turning a sword into a snake, as you just did?

"More or less. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. "If you become my apprentice, you'll be able to do so much more. Like flying in the sky for instance."

"F-Flying... You mean to tell me you can actually fly, like the birds?"

"Not exactly like the birds, but yes I can teach you how to fly eventually."

It didn't take Magnus long to decide, flying was just too hard to pass on. "Ok, I will be your apprentice." But I want to know what are your plans first. I will not help I crazy wizard To take over the world!"

The man named Gideon nods his head and decides to comply.

"First I will teach you magic, then we will take over this country. No blood will be spilled, I promise.." "Then together we will make a country where everyone is happy."

"That's what I want but ultimately it's too much of a hassle. Not to mention a time-consuming pipe dream. So instead I'll teach you magic then you will take over this country."

"I'll help you along the way, but I have other plans involving this thing."

The man shows Magnud the strange green magic artifact on his left hand.

"We can start small. We will stay in the dark for a few years, and help people from the shadows.."

Shifting the outcome of wars and helping as many people as possible."

" This way, In the long run, won't matter, But is not like we can just take over a country like is nothing."

"We have the Catholic Church to think of."

"If we take over a country, they will not stay put, especially if it's a country they rule over. I don't want innocent people to get cough up in the crossfire."

(This man is crazy, what he is talking about is something that would take years. And probably never be achieved.) (But still, what if we could...)

(With magic, anything is possible, right?)

"For now, you will focus on learning magic. And I'll be helping as many people as I can. When we find a way to eradicate the church. We will make ourselves know and bring the fight to them."

"That's more or less my plan. Do you approve?"

Magnus thought about it, and it did sound like a good plan...so he nodded but he had questions.

"Why don't you teach more people and together we could easily change this and every country?"

The man in the wooden chair makes a bitter smile, then responds.

"That would indeed multiply our chances. But sadly, I can only have up to three apprentices."

Magnus felt proud knowing that he would be one of the only three people, who will get that chance.

But depressed, at the thought that it would take a long time for them to realize their dreams, of a better world.

(Gideon's POP)

Honestly, I don't know how I'm going to go about it. Just because I have magic doesn't mean I can change the world.

I need to find the 'chosen one.' The person who one day will wild the Omnitrix.

He's out there somewhere, and I'm going to find him. My magic isn't meant for taking out armies, but with his help, I'll maybe stand a better chance.

For now, I will teach magic to Magnus and see what we can do to make the world a little better.

Not too long from now, the Great War between the Danes and the English will start.

I hope Magnus knows enough magic by then.

"We are done for today. You can go back to your village.

Come find me by the big lake tomorrow after sunrise. We will start your lessons then." Oh and bring a Broom."

The man nodded and responded with. "Yes, Master" I cringe at the word and said. "You don't have to call me Master. Gideon will Suffice."

The man once again, nodded, first to me, then to Snow. Finally, he left heading in the direction of his village.

I smile and tell Snow to follow me back to my secret cave under the waterfall.

The next day I wait by the lake like I said I would. Snow is resting on the ground near me. Honestly, he feels more like a dog, than a white giant deer.

I didn't have to wait long, the man was here. "Your early," I say. Turning to face him. "Better Early than late." He responds. (With the same confidence he had before I used his sword against him.) Indeed" I finally say.

He passes a Broom to me with confusion but doesn't ask? I take it, then I say.

"Let me first start, by telling you that the way I use magic is special. Meaning you cannot wild it the same as me."

"I don't understand your meaning He says, with confusion on his face.

"Let me show you what I mean, it'll be easier that way."

I tell him to come and stand next to me, then we both turn to face the lake

I lift my right hand and focus my energy on the lake before me. Finally, I say the spell out loud, so he can hear the incantation. "GINGARDIUM LEVIOSA."

The moment I say the words, millions of bubbles begin to form on the surface of the lake.

Magnus looks at it with wonder in his eyes. Wishing he could do the same. Then he saw it! Thousands of rocks began to surface from the bottom of the lake.

When they're all in the air, I lift my hand further up, and they all take to the sky.

A minute later they come crashing down on us.

"Here they come..."

"Y-you can stop them right?"

"Just watch."

This time, I say a different incantation.

"ARRESTO MOMENTUM"

Immediately, they all began to slow down. It only takes a second before they orbit the surface of the lake once more.

I rest my hand, and all the rocks fall back into the water. Making a big splash in the process.

I turn to face Magnus and say. "Now you try it, and see what happens."

He looks at me like I'm crazy. But decides to try nonetheless.

"How exactly should I go about it?"

First, you have to focus on the energy inside your body. You should already have it. It passed from me to you, the moment I chose you as my apprentice.

He nods his head, closes his eyes, and begins to focus.

"You should feel a tingle in your hands." He nods with a smile.

Okay. now wild that power out of you, focus on the lake, and repeat after me. "GINGARDIUM LEVIOSA"

He does as I say but ultimately mispronounces the words.

Immediately I picture Hermione's indignant face telling Magnus the right way to say it. (No, stop, stop. You're saying it wrong, It's LEVIOSA, not LEVIOSAR.) I try not to laugh as I correct the man.

He nods, and this time says the words right. But nothing happens.

"See, this is what I meant when I said, that you wouldn't be able to use magic the same way as me."

He looks disappointed. "So those this means I can't use magic?"

"Nonsense, of course, you can, but you'll need something to channel your energy into. Like a wand or a staff."

Magnus looks at me like he has no idea what I'm talking about...so I walk to a nearby tree a take one of its strongest-looking branches.

I came to stand next to him again, and offer him the stick.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" "Try using it while you say the incarnation. Maybe even give it a wave."

"Alright", he tells me, doubting me completely. I only smile, and nod towards the lake."

Once again, he focuses on his energy, this time with the stick, sorry wand, in hand. When he feels the tingle, Magnus gives the wand a wave aims at the lake, and says.

WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA.

Magnus's face beams with glee when a few rocks begin to resurface. Nowhere near close, as much as I did. Not even half the amount. But to him, it was the greatest thing he's ever done.

It was magic!

"Ok, now use your wand to guide them. Then send them upwards into the sky." With great difficulty, he manages to pull it off.

"See! you're a natural! "I have a good teacher." He says, matter of faculty. I smile with pride for my students and myself.

"Okay, now this is where it gets tricky. Point your wand at the sky and the moment you see them coming say this.

ARRESTO MOMENTUM. ARRESTO MOMENTUM, I repeat. "If you mispronounced it, this time will be in trouble."

As if understanding my words, Snow gets up and hurried back to the cave. "Coward!" I say under my breath.

Magnus looks nervous, sweat begins to gather on his forehead. "Don't be nervous I know you can do it."

Finally, the rocks begin to come down. Magnus does as I said and he lifts the wand, pointing at the sky When he sees them all, he screams out. ARRESTO MOMENTUM.

Many of the rocks continue their trajectory, but 90 percent of them start to slow down until they finally stop inches from the lake and ours heads.

"That was close. But you still manage to pull it off!

He smiles nervously.

Now, maneuver the ones on top of us, back to the lake first, and let them all sink together.

"Yes, sir Gideon! "Gideon is fine. He doesn't respond, instead, he moves the rocks back to the lake and sinks them all.

When he finishes with the rocks, I turn to him and say.

"For the next week, your job is to practice with both of these spells. Try levitating small objects at home and slowing their descend."

Remember "NEVER" to use magic in front of anyone. No matter the cost."

"Do not worry Sir Gideon. I give you my word."

"I Magnus son of Ivar shall protect this magic, you have gifted me."The man bends the knee, as he pledges his vow.

I smile, accepting his pledge.

He gets up, and I continue with the homework.

"Finally you will come here every day and practice with the rocks on the lake."

"Try to lift as many as you can. This will help you expand your magic energy, or mana, for short, by the end of the week."

"You'll be able to cast difficult spells, with better accuracy."

"I understand. I will not let you down, sir Gideon!"

"Good. I stop correcting him. I realize it's a lost cause.

"We don't have much time to train you." So you have to learn as much as you can, with very little time.

"What do you mean? Why don't we have time? There is no war at the moment."

"No, but Soon, there is going to be a war, a big one. The Danes will attack the English, but this time they're going to do more than just kill and loot."

Magnus's heart leaps. He can imagine all the innocent people that will no doubt be massacred.

"This time around, they're going to try to conquer the nation. We have to be there to save as many as we can."

"Conquer England! That's but a dream. The Danes have tried for centuries. But the Anglo Saxon always end up winning."

"Why would King Harald try something so reckless?"

"Well, he has many reasons like gold for instance. But mostly because the English will soon massacre all the Dane villages on their land."

Odin's beard, that's, that's... the man wasn't even capable of finishing the sentence.

"Exactly! so you must be ready for when that happens. Our job is to save lives. And you can't do that, in a war of this magnitude, without Magic."

"I'll do the best that I can I'm a Viking after all, or at least I was one."

"Yes, but no more! Now, you're my apprentice. So that makes you a mage, and soon you'll be a wizard."

"A mage? He asks. "Yes, a mage is someone that can use magic. You're not a wizard yet, but soon when I teach you all I know. You will become one."

"I understand."

"Good, keep practicing. There is something I must do. I'll be back in a week."

I left him at the lake and went back to the cave. It's time to find the next Ben ten.
