Man being immortal is quite nice, I don't have to sleep nor eat. Honestly, I have all the time in the world.
If I want to find 'Ben', then I have to go to a bigger village, better yet, a city. Magnus' village is too small. They don't have any orphans to speak of.
The Omnitrix says the closes city is a place called Odense. That's such a stupid name, honestly. These people really love to worship their Gods. They have no originality whatsoever.
"Snow you stay here!"
The animaI looks at me like I just broke his favorite toy. "I can't bring you with me" this time. (I say, shaking my head.) "It'll attract too much attention."
Next trip, it'll be you and me, buddy.
He looks away offended and goes back to the forest.
"Okay...
I walk outside and find the broom I asked Magnus to bring me when he came back today. "It's time for flying! I've been putting this off for long enough."
I take the broomstick with my left hand and pass my energy into it. Then I place it on the ground and like in the movies, I say "UP".
The broom jumps upward into my hand and I know it works. I sit on it, in a sideway position, take a deep breath, close my eyes...and up I go.
Little by little I start to ascend. Everything is going fine until I open my eyes and look down.
"Oh, my GoDDDDD!! This is craZY! FUCK, FUCK, FUCK I can't see the ground ANYMORE."
OHHH, "FUCK YEAH, WOHOOO!!"
After my little panic attack, I quickly get used to being in the air. So I easily maneuver the broom towards the direction I want to go.
"I should probably go above the clouds, I can't let anyone see me flying." I wild the broom to go up and it easily obeys.
Passing the clouds the sun feels hot on my back. "Man, this is the life what a beautiful sight! I can see everything. From up here. "
A pack of goose, fly next to me. I pass right through them breaking their formation and they scatter all around. "Hahaha, dumb birds."
"Let's try a flip." On there. One two THREE!! I do a flip and almost fall off. "Fuck that was close!"
"Let's try that again. YEAH BABY THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!
Finally getting the hang of it, I start doing all sorts of maneuvers in the air.
Then I see a river. I dive down fast. Crossing it in a matter of seconds. The water splits as I pass through; I can't help but do like in the movies, and touch the cold water beneath me, with my bare heads.
"This is way too addictive!"
After I've had my fun, I go back up and focus on getting to Odense as fast as possible. Always taking in the sites, of course.
In my little sky adventure, I pass village after village until finally, I see it, a huge city. "This must be Odense!"
I look around for a safe place to land. When I find an abandoned building, I land safely on the roof.
Ok, so I'm in Odense. From what I could see from above, this must be a major city. There must be dozens of orphans here. This is a perfect place to start looking for 'My Ben.
Finally, outside, I walk around the ancient city and all I see is misery. Yes, there is a few happy-looking people, but most of them look like beggars. Their eyes are sad and dead inside.
They look malnourished. The men had swords at all times. They were ready for an attack that could happen at any minute.
I walk the town searching for orphans, but I easily got distracted by the sadness in this place. "I can't help but feel bad for the people here." (I'm going to help you one way or another, just give me some time)
Most of the houses are made of stone but there were also some made of wood. Every person had long hair. Man, woman, and child alike.
They wear it braided, tide up, simply untied or untied with a few braids. (I can't imagine the amount of 'louse these people must caries.)
I get goosebumps at the mere thought.
They all looked at me weirdly as I walk past them, with my very short hair.
When I get to the town square, This time I see more lively people. There's are lots of carts full of food. And vegetables. Mostly seafood, but there were other things as well.
I keep looking for children but instead, I find a man sitting at the edge of a street. He's wearing a brown robe and hood with a big wooden cross dangling off his neck.
(Great! Christian fanfic.) "I can't be seen using magic in this place. Unless I want to end up burned at the stake." I say in modern English so no one understands.
I keep looking at the man I assume is a monk. Until a young man taps my shoulder and brings me back to reality.
The man is tall, with dark-red hair, he wears, on a long braid, that falls to his lower back. He is wearing light armor. And keeps a short sword next to his waist. The man isn't stunningly handsome, but some could say he is quite the catch.
Back in my time, women would probably fight for his attention. If my guess is correct, he must be in his early 20s.
"Hello, my name is Gideon. What can I do for you?" I say with a bright smile. Even Looking like Chris Woods, I feel overshadowed by his looks.
He looks at me with a very serious expression them says. "You can call me Erik"
"I'm with the city guard." I guessed as much so I just listen to what he had to say.
I've memorized the face of every person who came into this city today. Yours isn't one of them. (He says matter of faculty)
my heart leaps, (I didn't think of that.)
"Explain how you got here, and what business do you have in Odense!"
By the end of it, his hand was placed over his sword.
I didn't have a good excuse for how I got into the city, so instead, I tried to explain the reason for my visit.
"Again my name is Gideon," I say, standing my hand towards him. He looks at it confused.
So, I explain. "Where I come from people greet each other by shaking hands."I take his in mine and show him how.
He looks at me suspiciously but doesn't stop the action.
I try to read his mind, to see what he thinks. But it all comes in blank. (Weird! Someone, I can't read never thought it possible.)
After I'm done showing him, I continue talking.
"You have quite the strong grip buddy." He nods but doesn't say anything.
"Anyway, the reason I came here is very simple, I came looking for orphans."
Orphans? What do you need orphans for? Are you a slave merchant? If so you should leave, we don't sell orphans into slavery here.
"What!! No! God no, do people even do that!?"
"Yes! Isn't that why you are here for? What else could you do with orphans?"
The people around us started to give me weird looks again, but this time, not just for my short hair.
"Can we go to a more private place? I don't like the way the people here are looking at me.
I promise I'll explain everything there!
He looks around, nods his head, and with a commanding voice says. "Follow me."
I follow Erik to a building, which I'm guessing must be the guard post. As it's stationed next to the city's front gate.
He lets me inside, the place isn't too spacious. There's only an open room without any decorations. Furnished with only two shares and nothing more.
Another guard is already inside. Erik greets the man, he calls Vank and tells him to wait outside, while he questions me.
He takes one of the chairs and points at the other, as he commands me to take it.
I position the chair to face Erik and begin with my BS.
"To be completely clear I'm not a slave merchant. The mere idea of slavery makes me want to vomit."
Erik's facial expression doesn't change he looks as intimidating as ever.
The reason why I'm looking for orphans, or to be more precise, for an orphan boy. It's s because I can't have children of my own! So I want to adopt one instead.
After hearing my reason, for wanting an Orphan. Erik was at a loss for words. The shock in his face said it all!
"Slave treaters are a normal occurrence around here. If you would've said you were one of them." I would have escorted you out of the city, and that would have been the end of the matter."
Erik says, with a look I can't decipher.
However, he points at me, you're here for something so bizarre, I can't even know what to do with you.
(What's so bizarre about adoption? And how is it more strange than slavery?)
"I have to admit, you're the first person I've ever met who willingly declares his shortcomings as a man."
(My shortcomings, what the heck is he talking about?)
"I now understand why you needed a private place to speak. I'm impressed by your bravery."
(How am I being brave again?)
"You can be assured this conversation will stay between us."
"I Erik, son of Michael, make this oaths to you."
(What the hell!!) (I'm so confused. Should I just go with it, as I did with Magnus?)
"Nonetheless, I cannot aloud for you to take an orphan out of the city as you please. Even if it's for the reasons you say."
I look at him and think.
(I could Obivliate him, or use Imperio, to force him. On second thought, no, I shouldn't. Using magic in a place this big is way too risky. Plus the church has already put her sticky hands on this place.)
(What to do, what to do? Wait, that it!)
"You said I can't bring an orphan away with me right?"
He nods his response.
Then what if I move here instead. Can I adopt one then? (I already wanted to help the people here, anyway. Two birds, one stone.)
Erik thinks for a second then says.
"I suppose there is nothing wrong with that. No rule says you can't move here."
"If you do, move here, then yes, you will be allowed to 'adopt as many orphans as you want"
"I must warn you though. The rent isn't cheap. It's one gold a month."
(One gold a month! That must be terrifying for the people of this city. I bet most of them don't even make one silver a day.) No wonder they looked so desperate. Most of the money they make goes into their housing.
"The money won't be a problem."He looks at me, in doubt but nods his head nonetheless.
"In that case, I can take you to the orphanage myself." He says. Then gives me a breathtaking smile, the first he ever gave me, today
I smile bitterly back at him and say. "Thank you kindly, Erik, I won't forget this."
however, Inside, I'm actually thinking.
( This guy is way too good-looking. Dam him! Why didn't I choose Chris Hemetheworth instead?)
(I feel cheated...)
