The Devil’s bargain 2/3

For hours after the wizard left, I've been silently waiting. Lying on my back, on the dungeon's cold, hard floor, with my arms bend backward, supporting the back of my head.

Suddenly, I hear a loud noise upstairs, then silence, and finally someone is coming down the stairs.

Realizing this must be the work of the wizard guy, I get up and walk to the front of the cell.

It only takes the man a minute, and he's once again in front of me with the same evil smirk on his face that makes him look like 'Satan himself.

Looking at me through the bars he says.

"Ready for a prison break?"

"Yes, but terrified for what comes after!" He raises an eyebrow.

"I thought God was your witnesses."

"He is, but that doesn't mean I don't get scared.

"Good, never forget that feeling, it'll save you more often than not. Also, remember this, a person isn't brave because they have no fear, they are brave despite it."

"I will, you should tell my brother that phrase it'll do him good."

"Oh, don't worry I'm planning to!"

"Now Step back I'm going to break the door." "WHAT, why? Don't you have magic? Can't you snap your fingers, as you did before, make the door open by itself or something?

The moment I said this, his mouth makes a thin line and he bites his lower lip in frustration.

(Did I offend him somehow?)

With annoyance in his voice, he responds. "There's a spell for that, yes, sadly I can't remember it. Hurry up and step back already, we don't have all high!"

(It feels personal somehow as if he's blaming someone for his lack of magic. If I ask, I'm afraid hell take it the wrong way. Is best I forget about it.)

Resolved to forget about it, I nod, take a step back, and wait for him to break open the door.

My heart beats Excited at the prospect of witnessing once again the power of the holy artifact, he calls the Omnitrix.

The man gips both sides of the iron-barred door, he then takes a deep breath and finally palls the whole thing right off.

My pulse quickened and my mouth goes dry as sandpaper.

(Dear God! That object is incredibly powerful. Will I be able to do that?)

As if responding to my thoughts, with the iron door still in his hands, he says. "Compare to what you could do with it, this is but child's play!" "Now get out, I have to put the door back, can't let anyone see it like this."

I walk past him, eyes locked on his every move. Then I watch in awe as he effortlessly lifts the door above his head, then jams the thing back into place. Afterward, he lifts his hand and says the Latin word for fire. "INCENDIO"

"What are you--?"

I gape in shock.

"DEAR LORD, IS THAT FIRE COMING OUT OF YOUR HANDS!!??

He gives me a death glare. "Shut the fuck up, you'll wake up the guards!"

"B-but that--." Yes, yes, that's fire, I can cast fire, now shut it. After all, you've seen me do why are you still surprised by this anyway?

"I-... You're right, I apologize, it took me by surprise." It's fine just don't scream again." I won't, I promise."

I stop talking and wait for him to finish fixing the door with the magic fire. When he's done I ask. "Do you only have to say the Latin version of a word for your magic to work?"

He turns to face me to respond.

"No, I can also use chantless magic, meaning I can just wield things to happen.

"You'll see it later. Let's go time is money?"

(Time is money, what does he mean.)

"How is time made out of money "That's--. Forget it! Just come."

Nodding, I follow him up the stairs and into the guard post. The first thing I see is the two unconscious guards lying on the floor next to a chair. I recognize the one with the long black beard as the man who often works with my brother, the other, I've never seen before.

"You didn't have to be so ruff with them." With a deadpan look, he replies. "If you think this is ruff, then you're up for a rude awakening. Soon there is going to be a big war, you better shape up.

Before I can ask him about the war, He walks out into the street. I have no choice but to reserve my question for later and follow him, but not before I place the men in a more comfortable position.

"I'll pray for you both, may the Lord be with you."

Outside, the moon is full and the streets are silent. The night chill hits me hard and I can't help but tremble a bit.

The wizard, on the other hand, isn't bothered by the cold wind. (He's resistant to cold weather, probably even intense heat.)

When I catch up to him, we walk in silence heading in the direction of the church. When we're close enough that the tall structure can easily be seen in the distance, he begins.

"Listen closely, I'll explain the plan now. The church has four men guarding outside and six guarding inside."

"I'm going to use my magic to teleport you into the church's cellar, that's where they're keeping the girl."

The rest you'll have to improvise as you go."

"I'll be waiting by the east gate next to the forest, with your 'brother, when you're both safe come find me. I'll take you both to a safe place, far from here."

"Any questions?"

"Just one, what exactly do you mean by you'll 'teleport me inside? The term is completely foreign to me."

He looks at me like I just came out of the stone age.

"Right, I keep forgetting where I am"

Mm, let's see. Teleportation is a way to travel long distances in short amounts of time. You'll understand in a moment.

Not exactly understanding him I simply nod. He smiles, then asks me.

"Ready? "I think so."

"Great, Give me your hand, and hold your breath."

When I do, he viciously smirks and I know this won't be good. I start to feel a weird energy entering my body, the moment It stabilizes within me, we begin to shrink into balls of light blending with each other. The next moment I'm no longer standing in the open streets, but in a dark room instead.

In seconds I'm Coughing, bending down with my hands and knees on the floor. Finally, I through up the entirety of my stomach.

(WHAT WAS THAT? It was the worst thing I've ever experienced)

Standing up I look around for the culprit but the bastard had already left. "Oh, HE is so going to pay for that."

A minute later when my eyes finally adjust to the room's darkness, I find all the way across the room, a pale skin, dark-headed girl, wearing bloodstained pieces of clothing chained to the back wall, sound asleep.

"Dear lord what have they done to her!? This is inhumane!"

I hurry to wake her and the instant I touch her, her eyes shoot up, (She probably thought I was here to torture her). Before I can explain, she grabs my arm and with the saddest most broken smile I have ever seen, pleads.

"Please kill me.... "I-.. What? No, I'm here to save you."

With no light in her dead sad eyes, she repeats my words.

"Here to save me..." Yes, I'm here to save you! "Why...? What do you mean why? Because is the right thing to do."

...Silence...

Realizing she was finished talking I begin to unchain her. When I'm done I help her up.

"Come with me now I'll help you get out of here. She looks me in the eyes for a long stare then nods.

I look around for a way out. thankfully I quickly find the door that hopefully leads upstairs.

"Let's go, the door is right there."
