Preface

Ooooh boy, how to start this? Well, The Last of the Thundersouls is my first book in what I'm likely gonna turn into a book series. I have no idea how long it's going to be, but I figured not reasonably fit the entire story or even remotely half of it into this first installment as I worked purely on this in my free time. While I planned out a rough idea for the structure and plot of the entire series within the first few days of writing the introduction and chapter 1, with the inspiration and motivation to start it largely starting from a dream and all the daydreams I got from watching TV shows that get me so immersed into them that my imagination simply runs wild.

Though, I found it difficult to write consistently because of my ADHD. With ADHD, it's extremely hard and rare to have a consistent hobby or passion for more than a month for me and most people. I'm still very lucky to have kept up the motivation to continue working on it through my daydreams fueling what I wanted in the story to happen in terms of story arc settings, tone, and how characters would act.

Between all the proofreading, revising, rewriting, Adderall, daydreams, and school and everything in between have produced something that I'm proud of. While not exactly what I wanted to do pacing and length-wise, I still think you, the readers, will enjoy my work to the fullest. I fully consider myself a huge fan of fantasy stories and the genre as a whole, and just about everything that's inspired me to write this story comes from fantasy, with touches of action, adventure, and drama. Gintama, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Lord of The Rings are my 5 biggest inspirations for the story among other shows and pieces of fiction (You can easily tell that I'm a huge fan of fantasy and anime, lol).

I wanted this series to have a lighthearted feel that delved its toes into deep and dark themes (government corruption, mental health, perseverance) while not going too deep.

Plus, from reading Rodman Philbrick's Freak the Mighty in middle school, I've known the power of what great emotional storytelling can do and how it can motivate and help people get through difficult times in their life, be it in the present or future.

Originally, my idea for the main plot was more of an episodic series of books totaling what would be a far longer length than what I ended up going with that would have been a slow-burning, comedic action drama. That idea, though would be exceptionally harder to do and not as good especially with the way comedy tends to age through generations, especially with creating a very large main cast of characters all with incredible deep amounts of character development. While I aimed for that here, in longer series each character would have required multiple stretches of the story dedicated to developing them, and combining that in tandem with the actual central plotline would have made the story feel like a drag and a chore to complete for most people.

I probably glinted the idea for the story as early in my as head as early-mid 2019. But, that idea has changed and shaped significantly due to quarantine, and to a point where looking at the rough drafts for the story layout, power system, and the even rougher drafts of the first few chapters it's almost laughable but it makes me cringe slightly. I still like what I had drafted, but the story would have been structured in a way that wouldn't work due to what I see as a lack of quality.

Either way, enjoy my series where I aim to publish little, easy-to-read chapters every other day.

(Note all previously written were on November 30th, 2021 and currently, it is 1/5/2022) I had hoped to make this series a chapter a week serialization but due to me finding more time to write in my life, I've managed to set a time of every other day at around 9-9:30 PM EST.

Also looking at my introduction, I might change it up once again because my original vision with it has changed so much since I first wrote it (I even seriously considered scrapping it) but luckily at this point the story should be just about set in stone, just need to work on character design for all the characters and make my plan for every part/arc in the story more clear to me than it is in my head.

I originally started this series on Wattpad on October 31st, 2021 and brought it over to here on Webnovel on November 30, 2021 so it's already more than 2 months old! I'm very much excited to continue working on this series and I hope you, too, are excited to see this series continue.
