Chapter Forty Two

Neither Chase nor Lia were dreaming this time, but they were both experiencing a nightmare.

A real one.

Lia had hoped she was dreaming when she heard the rustling coming from the outside their front door, but her hopes were immediately crushed when she realized that she was awake. She was also certain that it was not Chase. The man went to bed earlier before her, at nine in the evening, on a Friday night, like a child. While she went to sleep at around one in the morning after binge-watching home renovation TV shows.

She was just trying to sleep when the noise started. It sounded like someone was jingling keys, or metal, or something. Regardless of what it was, someone was definitely trying to break into their apartment through the front door.
