"Bye mom"
"Have a nice day honey" After waving her mother goodbye, Emma headed to her workplace dressed in her work attire.
After her parents divorced, Emma took residence with her lovely mother where they lived in a one story home. The divorce happened when Emma was conceived. Her father had no intention of taking care of the kid and wasn't ready for the responsibility.
Her mother raised her with love and care, always putting her needs first and foremost. She raised her daughter to always be herself and not mind what others think. Though that ideal was slowly broken as she grew older. Although she wasn't self conscious, she was still afraid of being hated. So, she isolated herself from most people. Though another reason for her isolation is because she liked staying indoors. She preferred watching anime or reading manga than going out and talking with classmates.
Contrary to what she might say about herself, she was quite popular during her school days. She would often score the highest marks in the school and was also very athletic. After joining the school's volleyball team, she managed to get them into major tournaments for the first time in their history. Though they were beaten soon after by teams that had better synergy. Although she was very popular, she didn't have many friends. In fact, she only had one friend who she would hang-out with. But the country and instead went and pursued his dream in Photography. They would talk a lot on social media but their friendship naturally fell out.
After Emma graduated from high school with incredibly high marks, she decided to not go to University and instead got a job. She would work 8 hour shifts everyday where she earned a little over $16,000/year. This was because her mother had accumulated a large sum of debt due to her ex-husband's antics. They were clearly not financially stable and couldn't go even further into debt. Her mother tried to convince her daughter to go to a university, but Emma was persistent. At the same time as helping pay the debt though, she was also using some of those funds for her own hobbies. One of them was of course volleyball but the other one was music.
As she started watching anime, she discovered many unique scores and fell in love with them. She didn't know how to sing or play any instruments, but she worked her ass off. Throughout the years, she experimented and learnt how to play many different types of instruments. She also slowly improved her singing skill, but there was so little she could achieve in only 2 years. Her progress in itself was already incredible, as she started playing music when she was 17 years old. Her mother was really proud of Emma's talent and tried encouraging her to enter competitions, which she would promptly shut down. Music had always been a passion for her, so she didn't want to flaunt it or turn it into a job. She liked to separate her personal life from her work life and to her, turning music into a job was just a burnout waiting to happen.
Today, like any other day, she had to walk to work. Removing some cheap AirPod knockoffs from her pockets, she plugged them into her ears before removing her phone from her trousers. After scrolling a bit, she found the playlist she was looking for and started to listen to the music. Today, she felt like listening to some Japanese songs. She always had an interest in anime music, especially the opening and endings. If she found an artist she liked, she would research their other songs and see if she liked them or not. One of the artists she was currently obsessed with was 'Cö Shu Nie'. She found the group after watching the first season (and only season in my book) of 'The Promised Neverland' and was immediately attracted to their unique style of music. Now she was listening to one of their songs.
Emma worked as a waiter at a fancy restaurant where only the middle class and above would dine. Due to the restaurant's high standing, she naturally had to wear much more formal clothing. The young woman had black trousers and a black suit on. Inside the suit, she wore a white shirt to compliment her looks. She also had a black tie on her neck and some white gloves. Her hair was cut to her shoulder and had a little hair clip to stop it from getting onto her face. Her eyes reflected a violet hue as she made her way to work. With how she looked, she obviously caught the eyes of a few curious people. But unfortunately for them, she was too busy appreciating the art of music. She was so busy that she didn't notice the danger coming her way.
A truck driver swerved their car in an attempt to avoid the car that had slammed on the break. But in doing so, he instead switched his trajectory towards the young girl who was going to work. In a desperate attempt to save her, the driver slammed the brakes and pressed on the horn. But unfortunately, the large vehicle couldn't be stopped in time.
*BAM*
Before Emma could even see what happened, she was launched a few meters into the air and broke the window of the shop nearby. Her life flashed before her eyes as she tried to find a way to get out of this situation. But it was for naught as the despairing sadness set in.
'I'm going to die...'
Time slowed down for her as her final moments played out. She could only think about all the regrets she had in this life. She still had so much to do. Repay her mother's debt, go to a good university and earn a proper job, gain enough money to where she could buy stuff for her and her mother, find a lover and marry her and have a family of her own. She had so much she needed to do but only had so little time. Her imminent death lingered and the only thing she could do was accept it. Reality is painful…
