Chapter 28: An Unwelcome Customer

Samantha’s blood froze as she saw the figure of the intruder who had walked in through the front door of the bakery.

She turned to try and signal to the part-timer for help, but even she could hear the music that blasted from his earphones so far away, and she knew that he would not be of any help to her unless she made a scene.

Even clad in a baseball cap and sunglasses, and dripping wet as he dragged water into the bakery; Samantha would still recognize Christopher anywhere.

Her suspicions were confirmed when he took of the cap and glasses and smiled down at her menacingly. She felt sick to her stomach to see such an expression on the man’s face and watched helplessly as he stalked towards her from the other side of the counter.

Once he reached her, she could only stare at him with wide eyes. The only thing that separated the two of them was a tall and sturdy oak counter with a marble top, and she wondered whether this barrier was enough to keep him away.
