Pyre

The sun is shining in the sky, nearing the center. A large group of people have gathered around the town’s square. The dreary streets are filled with curious people who are murmuring to themselves. Some of them are standing on tiptoes, trying to see what is going on.

Several guards are lined in the middle of the street and a large pyre is being set up on a large podium. There is a grim atmosphere surrounding them as if something bad is about to happen. A child in the crowd is trying to squeeze through the people but is unable to see anything.

“Pappy what’s goin’ on?” the child asks his father.

“We dunno!” The father says, trying to see what the soldiers are doing. “It looks like someone will be burnt at the pyre!”

This is quite strange because in Ezealyra, only the traitors of the highest decree got this punishment. Last time, the former Emperor was killed off and his body was burned at the town’s pyre for his apparent betrayal towards the people.
