CHAPTER 8

THREE DAYS LATER

She was so exhausted from running that she couldn't help but stop at the cliff's edge to catch her breath. The only place she could think of to flee after being pursued for three days with nowhere to go was here.

In her hour of need, she had summoned that man, the man she had been engaged to since she was a child, the man she had given her heart to, to come and rescue her from this nightmare.

She would not have dared to tell him about her whereabouts if she had known she had been duped by this man and his so-called family. Because of her stupid mistake, she watched nervously and fearfully as he approached her with a snarl on his face.

She never imagined a day like this would come. She had nowhere else to run, she had exhausted all options, and the only thing that awaited her was death.

“You should be aware that your presence is a hindrance to everything for which I have tirelessly worked. So, dear, I am deeply sorry that this is the end,” the man said coldly as he pulled the trigger.

The only sound was that of the gunshot that pierced right through the girl's chest. The shot had such an impact that the young girl staggered and fell right off the cliff.

Her face was plastered with a smile, blood trickled down her lips, and her chest was oozing with blood. This was the end, and she was aware of it. She should have suspected it from the start because, despite the fact that she was spoiled, they never spent time with her.

She endured every time they drew blood from her because she wanted to make her family happy. Even when she couldn't recall her childhood, she never asked for anything but hoped for a better future.

If she had suspected and demanded answers, this would have been a painless death.

This death proved the one thing she had been refusing to admit since the day she discovered the dark secret her family had been keeping for more than a decade.

She was simply their child's clone, and it hurt like hell.

Chandler was terrified for the first time in his life as he gazed at the sweating Vanity sleeping next to him. He had no idea what she was dreaming about, but even a fool could tell it wasn't pleasant.

That was the definition of a nightmare, and no matter how hard he tried to wake her up, she wouldn't move. She kept pleading, "Please don't kill me. I'm not going to tell anyone. Please let me go. But why is this so? Why are you doing this to me of all people?”

His wife was betrayed by the person she trusted the most and had a near-death experience, despite the fact that she is still alive. He was in so much pain, and for such a young girl, what exactly did she see and witness that made those people so eager to not spare her?

She had a lot of secrets, and all he wanted was to lighten her load, to see her smile and be happy. Above all, he wished for the people who had harmed his baby to suffer a fate worse than death.

He could only wipe her with a wet cloth continuously because she was not waking up.

After about ten minutes of caring for her, something unexpected happened. He had never expected to see this in his own home in his entire life.

He was relieved to see her open her eyes, but he never expected to see red eyes instead of the usual blue eyes he saw every day. The next thing that happened caused him to panic for a few seconds before calming down.

Should he thank the nightmare for revealing his wife's secrets one by one? Chandler didn't flinch when she suddenly bit him; it was excruciatingly painful, but there was a rush he felt as the young girl sucked his blood as if her life depended on it.

He could tell why she was always secretive and left the house on weekends; his baby needed to be fed, and it had been too long since she had done so, and now she was biting whatever was nearby.

It was better for her to feed on him than to attack anyone and sink her fangs into someone else's veins. Did he think that because he was so excited, the other people would be as well?

With so many crazy thoughts racing through his mind, the temperature in the master bedroom dropped. He despised the thought of her doing that. He watched as she continued to sucking his blood; if he had been a normal person, he would have died from blood loss, but who was he?

He simply let her feed until she was full, then watched as her eyes returned to normal and she fell asleep again. He coaxed her back to sleep, and when he was sure she was asleep, he got out of bed and went to the bathroom.

He examined the bite marks on his hand. He didn't want her to be alarmed when she awoke the next morning, so he washed his hand, and the wound on his arm vanished.

He went to the kitchen and drank a bottle of juice to replenish the blood he had lost. He returned to the master bedroom and crawled back onto the bed after eating something.

He smiled lovingly as Vanity snuggled into his bosom for warmth; she wasn't repulsed by him, at least not yet. He made a mental note to have his people look into Vanity further; it was time for him to find out exactly what was going on with this young wife of his.

***

It had been far too long since Vanity had had that dream, and she had always despised the idea of releasing all the crazy things she had gone through before she turned into a vampire. It was as if her life had been cursed in some way.

Her life was turned upside down when she discovered she was a clone and not even a human being. To think she was created from that girl's DNA, raised in a laboratory, brainwashed for six years, and then discarded when that girl was awake. Her life was truly dreadful.

When she fell off the cliff, she thought she was finally going to be released, but that was only the beginning.

As someone who knew herself when it came to these horrible dreams, she was certain that she had not only fed on someone, but that person was certainly dead as a result of the way she had sucked all that blood.

Her husband was the only person she was with all night; did she expose herself to him? She was so depressed that she wished her hallucinations were the only thing she was experiencing. Fearful of what she might have done, Vanity set out to find her husband.

She had a faint smile on her face by the time she found him. She was worried because she had no idea what was going to happen to her. When she listened to his heartbeat, however, she found no abnormalities.

He was calm and didn't seem to be afraid of her, which put her at ease.

“What's wrong with you? You don't look so good.” Chandler asked her as soon as she walked into his study and stood right in front of him.

To be honest, she had no idea what to say in response to his question. She hoped fervently that he was unaware of her darkest secret. She didn't want him to leave her, especially since she had found solace and peace with him.

“I guess I'm just a little nervous. “You weren't next to me when I woke up,” she said shyly, her face flushing as she realized what she had just said aloud.

Chandler was in a good mood; how could he not understand his little wife's concerns? He just wanted to show her how much he adored and loved her because she was so adorable.

“Come here!” he motioned for her, and she trotted over to where he was sitting.

Vanity blushed again as she was scooped into her husband's embrace. Her man was a wolf in sheep's clothing. Every night, he threw her around and pressed her down. It was a good thing she didn't have to work because she would have been in a lot of pain.

“I needed to get some work done this morning. Let's spend the day together after that,” Chandler suggested, and she raised her eyebrows at him.

What was he thinking and planning? She didn't hear any remorse or repulsive feelings from him, so she knew she was safe. Even if he was aware of what she was, he did not push her away, which made her happy and confused.

“Why don't you go on a date with your dear husband?”

Vanity noticed her husband sulking like a child and found it so amusing that she laughed for the first time that day.

When he saw her relaxed, he felt better. He decided to just go along with it because she wanted to keep her secret hidden. He wanted to be with her willingly; he didn't want to see her go because she was afraid of what people would say if they discovered her secret.

Vanity smiled at him and kissed him on the cheek, saying, "I'd love to go on a date."

How could he not take advantage of her agreement? He decided to christen this place once and for all because they had never made love in his study.

For a long time, the wolf pounced on Vanity and devoured her. She cried and begged, but he didn't listen and continued until she passed out.

Chandler cleaned up his wife and brought her back to bed. He looked at her sleeping face and hoped she had a good night's sleep this time. He'll be ready to take her out for some fun by the time she wakes up.
