CHAPTER 9

A group of people sat with sullen expressions in a large sitting room, having some refreshments.

Kelly Wagner was unsure whether she should be pleased or concerned about her son's current progress. She was a mother who adored her children, but she adored Chandler even more because she knew there was nothing else she could do for him.

It's been a few hours since Chandler's wedding was announced to the family. To be honest, the news surprised everyone because Chandler's situation was not kept a secret in the family, even though it was a taboo subject.

No one was allowed to talk about it or they would face family punishment.

Kelly found herself silently crying as she reflected on her unfortunate son. When Heidi was born, the entire family rejoiced, but when the curse caught up with him, they realized that there was no hope of ever having another child from him.

The Wagner family had a long history and was considered old money. Every family in town had to respect them because their foundation was much stronger than the other families'.

Around three centuries ago, the Wagner ancestor was cursed for abandoning a woman who loved him in order to pursue his true love. The ancestor was cursed to have all of his firstborn children suffer so much and never find a woman to hold. Only a special one could be with the cursed individual.

Many rituals and experiments were carried out in order to refute this curse, and it was eventually discovered that the curse would manifest itself when the individual was twenty, and as a result, one would have to sire children before that age.

However, in order not to stress the individual, the elder remained silent and only revealed the situation when it occurred. This was also true for Chandler, who was born with the fate of being cursed.

Because they lived longer than ordinary people, he was doomed to be alone for eternity if he didn't find someone special. The cursed person could not be intimate with anyone; the ladies could not touch him because it repulses him completely. Only their fated ones will be capable of doing so.

However, there was always an issue with the cursed individuals after they discovered their fated ones. It was difficult for the other side to accept the cursed individuals' other side because they were no different than beasts or demons.

They were overprotective, which led to them doing things they should not have done. When the fated ones discover their partners' crazy side, they usually flee, causing the cursed ones to go insane and cause more damage because they are torn apart by rejection.

Kelly, as a mother, was concerned when she learned Chandler had married his personal maid Vanity. But she felt better after hearing the report from the person assigned to Chandler's side. She was now curious to get a better look at her daughter-in-law, but she knew that if her son didn't bring it up, they might as well forget about it.

“How do you feel about this, Husband?” Kelly inquired of her husband Hunter, who had remained silent since hearing the news.

Hunter's heart was filled with conflict, but he was relieved that this had happened. He would accept Vanity no matter which kind she was because she was the first woman his son had shown interest in.

“From what I've heard, she's a nice person. Let's just wait and see where it goes. If he is serious about her, he will bring her here sooner or later,” Hunter said dismissively, and Kelly simply accepted it.

It was still too early for them to have high hopes, so they should just wait and observe the situation.

Vanity had been in a good mood since their first date, which alleviated Chandler's concerns. She had been too idle at home because she had no friends in the city and no work to do.

She spent her days eating, watching television, and sleeping. As a result, she had gained weight, which was a good thing.

Chandler went to work after leaving his wife at home, where the investigation report awaited him. He had his men look deeper into Vanity ever since that night, and he wanted to know everything, even if it was just a minor detail.

Chandler opened the file containing the results of his men's searches over the previous few days. As he read the report, he frowned. Everything in this report made no sense.

His wife was a carbon copy of Gwen Drysdale, who lived in the city of Bares. They looked like twins if it hadn't been well documented that she wasn't. This sparked a lot of suspicion, so his men dug deeper into the situation, and the results were even more shocking.

According to reports, Gwen fell into a coma for a year when she was only eleven years old and miraculously awoke with severe memory loss after a year. She had to learn everything from scratch, as if they were programming a robot.

According to an ex-employee of the Bares family, the young lady ran away from home six years later and never returned. The family, on the other hand, simply stated that the young lady had been hospitalized once more. After three months, the young lady was well again, but her demeanor was not like the young lady they knew.

Because no one saw the young lady being brought back into the house, this employee became even more suspicious of the situation.

The report went into great detail about the different types of care given to the young lady before and after she ran away from home. The employee was even convinced that the previous young lady was not their own flesh and blood.

Chandler was also convinced after reading the entire thing that there was more to this story, especially since the Bares family was involved in science and technology.

There were cases of cloning in the past, despite the fact that the government outlawed it, but there were people and organizations who never stopped. In any case, the underground world was insane.
