Remember

Putting the child back where he was, Adelard stepped closer to her and answered, "Yes. I lost everything."

"And I see you were rich. A very rich and noble man."

"Tell me, what is the curse on me?"

"You lost everything because someone put a curse on you. That's the reason you weren't feeling well," Bernadette said and walked over to him again, took his hands and pressed them to her heart. "You were in love. But you didn't fall in love yourself. You were forced. The spell came before love. It was that woman. She put a spell on you to make you weak and fall in love with her. But her goal was to take everything away from you."

Not knowing what to say, Adelard just sat down in his chair and froze. Inside him was surprise, shame, consternation, betrayal, and most of all, relief. As if hearing these words made him feel better at heart. And suddenly, love let go of him.
