In defense of this inadequacy, Leo tried to clarify, "They are still in the developing stage. I've heard that the guild is working their way to improve their present predicament. And it's not like the dangers I've faced were necessarily the fault of their management."

Austin raised an eyebrow.

"All three of your quests literally involved life-threatening scenarios..."

"I know," Leo interrupted, aware that he was sounding less convincing the more time went on. "But I was partially responsible for my own troubles. When you go on a quest, you're granted a lot of discretion to make your own decisions. Some of the risks I took were based on my own personal preference. And I'm still inexperienced in handling these matters, too.

"Like it or not, that's just how the role of an adventurer works."

There was an impression of finality at the end of Leo's explanation.
