Chapter Thirty Three

Driving down the road, it is quiet. Kathy is becoming restless. They have been operating for a few hours.

"Mom, I am hungry."

"We will get you something to eat, honey, just holding a bit longer."

"Mom, that's what you said an hour ago."

Julia pulls to the side of the road, scratching the cubio, looking for something to eat.

"I can't believe these people had nothing to eat in this car."

She looks in the back seat and finds nothing. Kathy opens the passenger door as Julia leans over and closes the door.

"Honey, what are you doing?"

Kathy looks at her mom, "my legs are hurting, mommy."

"Okay, let's climb out and stretch a bit."

Julia opens the door for Kathy as she looks around. The temperature is cold. Looking up ahead, all she can see is the road.

This drive feels longer than anticipated, and the tank is almost empty.

"Honey, how is it that shadow is always there to rescue us?"

Kathy walks to the side of the road, looking at the trees.

"Honey, is there something?"
