Chapter 73: Known
It was like a bomb dropped into Lauren.
All the years that have spent building her career was just shattered in minutes.
Calling Kevin would be the only option she has, she just needs to know who is responsible for this, aside from her, it is only Kevin and Mia who knows about the truth.
Lauren is in front of the office of Yillis Production, she just can't leave. It felt like she was robbed.
"Finally, you answered!" Lauren said as soon as Kevin picked up his phone.
"What do you need" Kevin uninterestingly answered.
"Did you do this? Do you really have to destroy my career?" Kevin can't understand why Lauren is lashing out on him.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Lauren was taken aback by Kevin's response. By the tone of his voice she is also sure that it wasn't Kevin's doing but she needs to get to the bottom of this.
"How the hell Yillis figured out about the manuscript?!"
"The hell would I know that?" then a long silence enveloped the two of them. Lauren don't know what to do anymore, she knows that breaking down is not an option.
"Lauren" it was Kevin who first broke the silence between the two of them, "Just wake up from your delusions."
"What do you mean" Lauren responded in a low voice; she knows exactly what's Kevin is talking about but she still can't face it.
"Her Last Memories are not yours" then another silence enveloped the two of them. "It wasn't yours in the first place" then Kevin just dropped the call on her.
"Mia, there is someone looking for you at the lobby"
They just finished a brand-new live program and Mia is currently at the control room.
"Who?" Mia just continued on archiving the material they just used to the machines for future reference, "I'll be there"
"Do you need to go?" One of the technicians in the control room asked her, "Yeah, someone is waiting for me downstairs, Can I leave this to your care?" then Mia grabbed her phone and tumbler to go to the lobby "Sure, I'll leave the patching list later to you"
"Hey! We have a technical meeting in an hour so cut it short" Callen reminded her while integrating the graphics into the switcher.
"Will do, Callen" she chuckled at the reminder then head towards the lobby to see who is looking for her, she has no idea who is looking for her and its not usual that someone's meeting her without informing her first.
When she reached the lobby, she was immediately approached by one of the receptionists and led to the café.
"They have been waiting for you" Mia just tilted her head in question but chose not to voice out her confusion.
As soon as they entered the café, she knows two people from that party of 5, it was Patrick Fraust and James Klerg, the director of Her Last Memories.
Mia's having a hunch, if its not about that manuscript then she doesn't know what this talk is about if it isn't about Her Last Memories.
"Engineer Lee?" it was the guy sitting next to James who called out to her, "My name is Juno Vallen, Executive Producer for Yillis Production" in respect, Mia just shook his hand in respect, Juno then continued to introduction, the two other guys with them are their PR and Marketing guys.
"Patrick? What is this for?" she then turned to Patrick to ask what is this all about. Ysa already asked Patrick to tone it down when talking to Mia about this.
Putting it into Ysa's words 'We haven't told her anything about this plan' that made Patrick scratch his head.
"This fell into the hands of Fraust Holding which happens to be my father's company" Mia then grabbed what Patrick placed in front of her, it was a copy of Her Last Memories.
"How did you get this" she then looked at each and every one of them. She's not going to get any answers from them.
"It doesn't matter Engineer Lee, what matters right now is we already know that this is yours" then he paused for a minute before continuing "and we want to know what you want to do"
"What I want to do?" she can't understand why her decision matters now. The film is already done.
"You can do whatever you want with it. Patrick can negotiate the terms with you" she knows that she didn't even signed with Starlight but she doesn't want to be bothered with thing that are already done.
Although she can't deny that she is happy. It is her work and being recognized for your work is nice.
Mia looked at Patrick pleading and apologetic, Patrick just responded with a sarcastic smile and shook her head.
"We still have one more concern with you" Mia just looked at them and waited for them to continue "Lauren Culls"
Mia immediately looked up to Juno and stared to him long enough to give an eerie feeling to everyone sitting in the table.
"I'll leave that to Patrick also, go a head with the premiere night and don't make a fuss about this with the media, it will be better if you just settle this internally" Mia just stand up to say goodbye to them while Patrick also followed Mia to talk to her for the terms she wants to include with them.
Leaving the other three in confusion.
"You seem cool with everything" Patrick started as soon as they got out of the café, "Who would not be cool with it, that manuscript was stolen from me so right now is truly a happy moment for me"
"Then why wouldn't you demand something?"
"I work within the industry Patrick, I know the sacrifice of those people just to get this movie done, I already saw the movie when I did the score, they did a great job and I don't want all of the efforts and sacrifice to go all in vain" then Mia gave her signature soft smile to Patrick "I just wrote the material"
With that Patrick can't do anything with Mia's decision. He'll just do what he can to make sure to make everyone know that Her Last Memories was written by Mia Lee.
"I'll let them know" then Mia waived goodbye saying that she still has a meeting to attend to and that she'll dropped by later at starlight to give him the mastered mix for the comebacks.
Before coming back to the café, Patrick let Argon and Ysa know what happened.
