Numbness.
That was all I knew.
In the days that followed, that was all I felt. No emotion, nothing.
Just a deep, piercing numbness that spread through my whole body, protecting me from the painful onslaught of emotions that would ensue if I let myself feel anything.
I went through the days as normally as I could.
I laughed when required, I smiled when required, I ate when required, I frowned when it was required, I drank when I needed to, and I engaged in conversation when I had to.
In the days that followed, I was like a puppet being pulled by strings.
Everything I did during those days was a blur. I couldn't remember the previous days clearly before the next day would arrive suddenly.
I managed to pay my second-year school fees with my dad though all I wanted to do was stay home and curl up in bed.
