On the Road Once More

Journeying to Alun's home, his armour no longer upon his person, Chuo could not help but let out a sigh of relief. Twelve twelvemonths of wearing armour and finally it was over. At long last, he would find peace.

Riding upon his steed, Chuo thought of when he had last seen Alun and he smiled. No doubt she had grown just as he had, they were no longer the young things they had been when they first met. They were still young, of course, but now they were adults.

Stroking his beard, the Young Tuyuhun wondered how it was even possible he had managed to make it to five and twenty. He had been born before his time, he had always been lesser than his elder siblings in combat, it was quite miraculous really. Perhaps he was just lucky.

Or maybe it wasn't just that. It may have been partially luck, it may have been genuine improvement on his part, but in a war, one did have to be lucky to see the end of it.

Yes, one did have to be lucky. After twelve twelvemonths of bloodshed and death, Chuo hoped to never see such a thing as long as he lived. He'd seen so many ghastly things that he knew they would be appearing in his nightmares for many twelvemonths after. Of course, he would have been happy if he never had nightmare again for the rest of his life.

If only such things were possible.

Stopping his horse for a moment, Chuo stared at the land. The green plains, the occasional tree, the wind blowing through the grass, the blue sky with some white clouds above… This was a wonderful sight, one that was welcome for one returned from a conflict.
