What a dick!

SABINE.

As I walked out of his room I yanked my arm out of Florence's and glared at her, my chest rising and falling with each puff. "Why did you do that? You should have let me give it to him!"

"Give what to him?" Florence gasped, "you still have more to say after all that? He is your employer!"

"No, Mrs. Quing is my employer, he is just some arrogant jerk that thinks it is okay to take his anger out on an innocent passerby." I huffed, placing my hands on my waist, my eyes scanned the lobby and narrowed when I caught a peeping figure behind the corner and I couldn't help but sigh.

"Carly! I can see you, come out" I yell, and her leg sticks out, then her hand before the rest of her body followed. "I got called a manipulative slut because of you this evening."

Her eyes widened and she bit her lip and avoided my eyes, looking at her feet "well I thought he liked you, he is always saying this like 'the other maid wouldn't have made such a horrible mistake' 'goodness how did I end up with a dimwit like you, it's like going from paradise to a third world country.'" She said and now it was my turn to look away. I know I should have been offended and all but I was kind of flattered, what was wrong with me seriously.

"It is that bad? Are you going to get into trouble again?"

"No, but I might" I replied, and as I did I gripped Florence's arm to keep her shut. "You sent me into the den of the lions with nothing for meat but my own flesh and now I got eaten up, so my consolation is half of your salary for the next three months."

She gasped and I stepped forward folding my arms, "what you can't do it?" I asked.

"Hey, Sabine" Florence started "she has a family to feed, her parents are sick." I pursed my lips and sighed, looking at their hopeful eyes, everybody had it hard and I am not saying I had it harder but if there is something I have learned it's that this world is a wicked place, and being empathetic was going to get you nowhere.

"Oh wow, I didn't know that, well sucks to be you then, I will be expecting half your check by next tomorrow then," I say side-stepping her and walking away. I walked straight out of the house and headed to the pinnacle as I got close to the building my phone rang in my pocket. On instinct, my head looked from side to side to see if there were watching eyes and I was quickly out of the pavement and down in the grass running behind a tree to take it.

"Hello?"

"Is this Stephen Bahn's daughter?"

"Yes? What can I do for you?" I asked.

"Well, you can start by paying me that two hundred thousand that your father owes."

My heart dropped and my eyes widened, why did that amount sound so accurate? Did he gamble all the money away again?

"I'm sorry but who are you?" I asked.

"What does that matter? Look, I know where your father lives and I know where your brothers and grandmother stay as well, so if you know what is good for you, you will stop asking questions and give me what I want."

God! I shut my eyes in frustration as angry tears streamed down my cheeks. "Fuck you dad!" I let out a muffled scream, for fuck's sake! Why was he doing this? Why did he always do this to me? Sebastian's school year would soon come to an end and I promised him that I would be able to send him to that science high school how the hell was I supposed to do that now? I had been saving that money for months, and he just threw it all away in what? Less than a week? What a dick!

What the hell was I supposed to do now? For crying out loud, falling to the ground, I bit my fist and screamed into it, muffling the sound and the painful sobs that assaulted my chest after I refused to let them out, what do I do? What do I do?

ASHER

It took the entire night, well most of it to calm myself and it was no surprise that all I did all the while was stare at my ceiling. I was a jerk, it was really unfair what I did to Sabine and she had every right to be mad at me. I should go apologize, I said to myself more times than I can keep count now but here I was laying on my bed, watching time go by. I couldn't do it now anyway, she would have gone to bed already.

After another thirty minutes passed my eyes lay on the clock hanging on the wall across from me, it was a quarter past two, they was no way I would go to sleep now, so I shrugged off the blanket and got off my bed. Grabbing my coat from the rack by my door, I made my way out of the house. As my leg melted into the moist earth with each step I took I could not help but long for dryer time, this rain has been nothing but annoying. At least the gardener had already gotten rid of the earthworms and frogs, what remained was the annoying sound of cricket signaling each other for sex. Disgusting.

As I approached the treehouse, a familiar figure caught my eye, and I couldn't help but sigh. There was only one person that would be here at this time, a sigh escaped my lips, I hope she wasn't unable to sleep because of me again.

"Sabine?"

She turned around her lips parting slightly when her gaze came in contact with mine, "unable to sleep?" She asked and I nodded.

"What about you?"

Shrugging she replied, looking away, returning her attention to the lake. "I just have a lot on my mind."

"That makes two of us," I said, "wanna talk about it?"

"I hate my father so much" she spat, pushing back her head causing her black hair to fall down her back.

"Well, I am not much of my father's fan either, what happened?"

"I don't want to talk about it," she said almost immediately.

"Fine, I won't ask" after a few seconds I just had to do it, "is it something I can help with?"

She replied my curiosity with a side glare and I looked forward at the lake, "it is something you can help me with but I'd rather not ask you."

"Why is it money?"I asked and she gave me pointed look that answered the question. "You do realize that of everything I have in this world that is the one thing I have in excess right?"

"Are you trying to brag right now?" She huffed. Nodding my head I tried to be understanding, she wouldn't want my money for someone like her it would be a big dent in her pride so I understood that she didn't want me to help.

"Fine, I won't help, just please stop being angry at me, I'll get out of your hair," I say getting up and turning away, I should catch some sleep before work tomorrow.
