"I don't really like it here." Leorio voiced his opinion as they pass through a narrow alley. "There's nobody out here."
"However, there are a lot of people here." Gon said while looking around.
"Let's keep our guard up as we move along." Kurapika added. "Can't you hear their movements behind these walls?"
"What are you all talking about?" Leorio complained. "I can't hear anything!"
"Quiet, Leorio. The super normals are talking." Silver said from behind him.
"Don't tell me you hear them too?" Leorio asked.
"They are here, and the one who has been following us too." With Silver's announcement, people came out of the wooden doors and flooded the street. A group of them also made a make shift barricade preventing the group of four moving forward.
"Welcome! To the exciting things of two answers!" An old lady in front of the barricade said.
"You are heading to the tree on the mountains right? First, you have to succeed in getting out of this town. The other paths that could lead you there are like labyrinths, in which reigns terribly, bloodthisty monsters." The old lady warned.
"So I'll ask you one question! You only have 5 seconds to consider your answer. If you fail, your mistake will disqualify you to take the hunter exam this year."
"!?" The group was alarmed with the condition.
"You can only answer 1 or 2, any other answer is invalid." The old lady instructed.
"Hey wait a minute! Only 1 question for the four of us? So if Kurapika fails, we all fail?" Leorio asked while pointing at Kurapika.
"Don't joke around. The only way for us to fail would be for you to answer incorrectly." Kurapika rebuked.
"Isn't it an advantage for us? Only one of us need to answer while the rest who doesn't know the answer just needs to be quiet." Gon pointed to the group.
"Hey hurry it up! Don't hold the line." A man came from behind and overtook the quartet.
"I can go ahead of you. I heard the instruction from the port, so as thank you I'll answer before the rest of you." He smugly said.
"Alright, here is the question. Your mother and girlfriend were captured by a demon. You can only save one. Which one do you choose? One for your mother or two for your girlfriend?"
"!?" Everyone was shock to hear the question.
'This question? There can't be an exact answer to this one. We can only try to guess which the old lady wants to hear.' Thought Kurapika.
"1." Chose the man.
"Why?" -Old lady
"A mother is unique, but not the girlfriend."
The jury gathered and eventually decided. "You may pass this way." They instructed as a path was open on the wall.
"Are you mocking us!? What is with that weird question!?" Yelled Leorio. "This game is messed up! Who can definitely say the right or wrong answer. I'm leaving! I'll take another path."
"Too late. If you abandon, you'll be disqualified this year. It means you don't have a soul of a hunter." The old lady mocked.
At the same time Gon, Kurapika and Silver heard something from afar.
"Leorio!" Kurapika tried to warn Leorio.
"Don't tell me you're gonna take the quiz? This is rigged!"
"Wait!" The old lady interrupted. "I don't want to hear anything else other than the answer. From now on, any useless words will be counted as disqualification."
'Shit! She caught unto me.' Regretted Kurapika.
"1 if you accept the quiz or 2 if you abandon."
"1." Kurapika immediately answered. He then observed Gon and Silver and sighed in relief. "It looks like they get it too."
"Your son and daughter has been kidnapped.. and you can only save one. 1 for the son or 2 for the daughter."
'This old lady is mocking us!' Leorio walked to the side and picked up a wood while the old lady started counting down from 5.
Leorio then tried to reach the old lady and smack some sense into her when a long haired kid blocked his path forward.
"I'm sorry guys." Silver started. He looked at the old lady and said. "I do not like the choices available in front me, and I don't like to lie just to pass either." Silver then walked to the entrance the first person entered and faced it. "My choice, is to train myself to become so strong, no one will ever cross their mind to kidnap any of my family, even the devil himself have to think twice. And if facing the monsters ahead proves that point, then I am willing to bet my life on it." He then proceeded forward without fear.
"Wait! I'll come along. I don't want to ever choose one over the other too. Thank you grandma for teaching us something valuable!" Shouted Gon as he followed Silver.
"Unwaivering will. I do not lack such a thing either." Kurapika followed suit.
"I'll follow them too, just to show you I don't like your method." Leorio spat.
'These kids, they do what they want. The rules suggest that they should be disqualified. But... I can't see any fear at all, and he isn't bluffing either. He meant what he said and he is willing to die for it.' The old lady looked at the back of the group and shouted. "Wait!"
The group stopped and looked at her.
"You all have passed my exam. You may take this road to go to the tree." She pointed at the opposite direction as the townfolks opened a new path.
"Really, grandma? We all passed?" Cheered Gon which got a nod of approval from the old lady.
A few minutes after the group of four left, a young man dressed in business attire came forward. "Are you sure, you are ok with that? The hunter association might stop supporting this sanctuary if they learned about this, mother."
"Yes it will be fine. In fact it would have been the other way around, there will be no sanctuary to guard if we had let that kid entered."
"I hope you are right." Sighed the man.
"As long as he pass the exam. Nothing will change." The old lady says.
"You are putting a lot of trust on someone you don't even know the name of."
"Oh we will, eventually we will know of his name. That I am sure." Smiled the old lady.
