Chapter 2: Date a Live

There were a few humans wearing strange suits flying in the sky—and to add to that, from the weapons in their hands, after the white hair shot at me, what followed was a large number of missile-like things launched at me in precision.

"...no negotiations or peace talks?"

Saying this, I raised my hand and squeezed it shut. It seems that they didn't hear me or just ignored me huh.

As I did this, the countless missiles crumpled up, as if being compressed, and exploded where they were.

Even the magnitude of the explosions was frighteningly small. It was as if all of the power had been sucked inwards.

It's as if the [Space] warped.

They soon looked at it with confusion unable to completely comprehend as for what I did.

I could somewhat understand the confusion of those people fluttering around in the air. Because neither did I fully understand what I did!

However, they did not stop their attacks. One after another, missiles were shot.

And so, another volley of missiles came right after me but this time, I didn't raise my hand and tried to test a few of my acquired abilities.

<3rd Person POV>

BOOOMMM!!!

A wide explosion occured and everything was engulfed with smoke and dust at where the Spirit was located.

One person then took the lead and moved forward.

"Hold fire," she said.

Captain Kusakabe Ryouko, the current commander of AST, also known as Anti Spirit Team whose task was to eliminate threats which are called Spirits which occured in this world which were the main causes of "space quakes" that engulfed and devastated the center of Eurasia, resulting in at least more than a billion of casualties 30 years ago. For the next 30 years, smaller spatial quakes plague the world on an irregular basis.

It was there task to eliminate these threats in order to preserve and protect mankind. Of course, AST wasn't the only team present doing this task, there were also other organizations such as DEM and more.

Space quakes were normally unpredictable at first but as years and technology advanced, things like the "space quake alarm", "shelters", and other more facilities were made to ensure the safety of people that might get affected by space quakes and phenomenons akin to that alike.

Ryouko then used her sensors and tried to detect whether the spirit was currently still there or not. Noticing that no changes had occurred on her sensors, she then made a conclusion.

"Elimination confirmed, no signs of life detected. Spirit status unconfirmed and will be treated as "lost". Mission complete, let's go back and report this to the top, also Master Sergeant Tobiichi Origami, we'll have a talk later" said Ryouko as she turned around and prepared to leave.

"..." Origami could only nod in response already knowing that Ryouko would say to her later on. It was just her usual preaches of not getting reckless or something.

They were preparing to leave but at the very last moment, their departing was halted with a loud shout coming from the place where the 'eliminated' target was located before.

"Hey, isn't it rude to launch some barrage of explosives and anti material bombs to a single person?! Tsk tsk tsk!"

The Spirit who was supposed to be deemed as "lost" or had left the area was still surprisingly still there as he caught their attention as he clicked his tongue.

Ryouko along with her teammates widened their eyes when they saw.

The Spirit was completely fine and unscathed—is what they've already expected but it was probably the first time a Spirit tried to communicate with them.

Origami whose eyes began to lit with hatred began to hover her CR-Unit at fast speed while drawing her saber as she flew forward in high speeds.

The purpose of its creation is to oppose the extraterrestrial beings, the Spirits. The CR-Unit provides enhanced physical strength as well as various weaponry to the user. In short, Origami's strength was beyond of those of a normal human while wearing this battle suit.

But it will not be enough compared to the likes of a [Spirit].

"Origami!!" Ryouko shouted in attempt to stop Origami from attacking the Spirit but she was a second late and the said person already drew her saber and launched right forward to the Spirit.

And so, she swung her blade right down on her target, but something unexpected happened.

"!!"

"Sigh. Quite hot-blooded aren't you? Calm your head for a bit," The Spirit spoke in a condescending manner.

The Spirit who was her target, who should've been wounded at least was now holding her blade with only two fingers.

Origami who noticed what situation she threw herself into immediately acted wisely. She let go of her saber and hovered back as quickly as she could in the air and created some distance between the her and the Spirit.

Glaring at the Spirit she then took next her gun and pointed it at the Spirit preparing to shoot but was rendered incapable as Ryouko and some of her subordinates prevented her from doing so.

"Origami! Snap out of it! This is an order, fall back for now!"

"But...! It's a Spirit and must be killed! We can't let these disaster be left on their own devices! Isn't that what we—the AST should be doing!"

"You are not entirely wrong but an order is an order. The higher ups sent me a command to retreat as fast as possible due to what Spirit we are facing right now"

"But...!"

"Origami!!"

Origami tried to pursue the matter but was halted by Ryouko's call.

Her Captain's eyes were then filled with contempt trying to convey to Origami that her selfish actions right now was... going to bring their demise.

She knew that her selfishness would just bring unnecessary losses if they try to fight this unidentified [Spirit]. But still, a Spirit is a Spirit and they must be eliminated. She had vowed that she will kill them as revenge.

Because they were the reason why her parents died that day.

Origami then also realized that her temper was unusually has a short-fuse today which led her to lose her cool.

She stared back right at Ryouko and grunted as she complied with her orders.

"Ugh... Fine, order received... I'll fall back"

"Good, let's move out of here ASAP"

They then we're interrupted by a sudden pressure weighing them down to the point that they couldn't move for they were occupied maintaining their balance in the air.

The source of that then looked at them with amusement as "he" smiled at them and said, "Ignoring me? Hello hello?"

"!!" Both Origami and Ryouko then looked at the Spirit only for a glance as they realized that it isn't only them that was paralyzed in this state but all of their colleagues as well.

"Ehem. This should suffice as a situation to talk with you all. Now, can I ask you all a question?"

None responded but they put their attention towards the [Spirit] with wary and hostile expressions.

Seeing this, the [Spirit] said, "Not all of you should answer this. This is just an easy question so don't fret. Also, if you don't answer this question, I'll 'crush' you all? Okay?"

"...."

All of them instinctively nodded as they felt the seriousness of their situation. This [Spirit] could just kill them all if it wants to.

"Sigh. Just answer this. What date is it today?"

"?" All of them were then confused at the Spirit's question and quizzically looked at "him".

"I'm waiting" said the [Spirit] in a carefree manner.

And then they remembered the [Spirit]'s words just a while ago which brought one of them to answer his question immediately despite the pressure weighing them which made it very hard to even move a muscle.

The cause of it which is the [Spirit] seems not to had noticed this though, not that he did care since he was just testing the waters of his acquired abilities.

It was Ryouko who then turned towards him and answered as clearly as she could.

"M—march.... 10th..... 2040...."

"Hm. I see," the Spirit voiced out in surprise.

With those words the pressure weighing down upon them disappeared as if it didn't happen in the first place.

All of them looked confused only for a moment before locking their eyes to the Spirit right before them.

'Well, it seems that I'm a month early huh. I should set up my "foundations" as my first step'

"Well, I guess it's goodbye for now~"

After saying that in a playful tone, the [Spirit] then "ripped" the air forcefully opening a spatial rift and entered through it.

Ryouko, Origami, and all members of the AST stayed at their places in bafflement. It was just as if a mad storm passed away as it occured albeit only briefly bringing destruction at its wake.

"...what just happened?"

As one member of the AST said those words, they couldn't help but ask themselves as for what really happened right now.

".... Let's go back. We need to report it to the main branch headquarters. This is the first time we've encountered a [Spirit] like this and...." Ryouko paused as she kept the continuation inside her mind.

'...also, this is the first appearance of a [Male Spirit] throughout the years. This information would surely be highly valued and investigated. That also goes for the [Spirit] asking what date it is as well and the possible things related to it'

Keeping those thoughts for herself, Ryouko and the AST flew away from the place to report their findings about the newly found [Spirit].

A/N: For those who are reading this, some may wonder if the year stated of this similar to the canon.

My answer for that is I'm not sure since the book only mentioned months and days in the novel and didn't mention what year the main plot in the novel took place.

I speculated that it was 2010 or 2011 which was the first appearance of the first spirit due to the date when the author released the 1st book of the novel. Adding 30 years to that is 2040 or 2041. I chose the year 2040 just as a speculation okay?

(Note: Tohka's first appearance was April 10th in canon, so yeah, the MC got transported here March 10th which is 1 month earlier at the start of the story.)

If any of you knows what exact year the novel took place then please comment because I will edit the chaps later on.

With that said, bye bye and see you a few days later on~
