Chapter 1:

In a small town of about 3,200 people, on the main road for our neighborhood, in the middle of the town, everyone can find a house that can be best described as a chaotic mess that has so many aspects to the house that it would look almost as if it was part of some fantasy world. There is a tree growing in the middle of the house with what seemed to be like branches growing up to be our steps. My little childhood home is so weird and yet so… Mom.

Taking a closer look around my room, I could see so many attributes that made it feel like home to me. It may not be organized but it was like my mind just exploded out to the outside world. It was as if my mind-boggling experiences has finally come out and showed itself. I found my hectic mess of a room, soothing and peaceful.

"EVE!" the monster of a father yelled, bringing me back to the world. He is not my actual dad though. He is just my stepdad. He married my mom a while ago and I really cannot remember a time when he was not in my life. His name is Mayor Major Heart… technically it is only Major, but he is the Mayor of Baldsville, Kansas and would like to be called Mayor Major Heart. "EVE!"

With a sigh and a roll of my eyes, I heaved myself out of my bed and ran down the stairs to find Major standing at the doorway with my friends waiting for me. "Hey, guys. Come on up," I said, leading them up to my room.

Once in my room, the conversation started flow. "Man, Major seemed to be in a worse mood than usual," Wade, my boyfriend, said while snuggling up close to me.

"Isn't he always like that?" Theresa said, flopping onto my bed as her long blonde hair laid out nicely.

"True," I exclaimed. "I really don't know what Mom sees in him."

"Maybe he is really good in bed," Kyle, my weird friend, said with a chuckle.

I half gaged at the though and threw a pillow at Kyle.

"Hey, just saying" he said with a shrug as he dodged the pillow.

"Anyway, are you guys ready for the last day of eighth-grade year to come to an end? In a couple of hours, we are going to be freshmen!" Theresa exclaimed.

"I know. It is going to be awesome and what makes it better is we don't have to go to school until noon today because some kid decided to do play an insensitive prank on the school and make a mess of the school," I said, leaning into Wade.

"Who was it again?" Wade asked.

"Who else, but Mike," I said with sass.

Theresa rolled her eyes and chuckled, "What does she have planned now?"

"I heard that she graffitied the whole school and had something crazy written all of it," Kyle exclaimed as he whipped his overly long hair out of his face.

"I don't understand her… her family is so nice, why is she so weird?" Theresa said.

"No kidding," I laughed. "Every time I walk by her, she whispers, I am sorry or saying the Chosen One is near. She is seriously freaking me out."

"Just think, next year… we might not have her in class," Wade said as he whipped my hair off his face.

"But she is so fun to be around. Life is never dull when Mike is around," Kyle said.

"It sounds to me like someone has a crush on the old Mike," Wade said.

"Shush you. Mike is not that bad. She just keeps things entertaining. Like in class she knows everything even though she doesn't pay attention to what is going on. She is so cool," Kyle exclaimed as he stood up.

"Sit down, weirdo, chill out. She is not that cool," I said.

The door creaked open. Mom is standing there with cookies and a smile. "Who are you talking about?" she said as she had a glimpse of gold in her special eyes.

"We are talking about the weird girl at school. Her name is Mike," Theresa said with a laugh.

"Mike!" Mom said, a little irritated. "She is not weird!"

"Mom?!" I was a little confused by the attitude she possessed.

"Dang, Miss Strickland. I never knew you could get mad," Kyle said, raising a hand for a high five from Mom.

Mom just stared at him and said, "Try to be nice to her."

"No!" I exclaimed. "She keeps saying things like she is sorry, and I am the Chosen One. What does that even mean?"

"She has been saying what?" Mom said intrigued.

"I don't really know. She just whispers it as I walk by her." Mom took in a deep breath and let it out. "What is wrong?" I asked as her eyes shined with a golden light. "Mom?"

She snapped out of her trance of the golden light in her eye. Shaking her head, she said in a calming and relaxed state, "Go get ready for school." She quickly and quietly walked out of the room in a state that made me concerned for her.

"Is your mom, okay?" Wade asked, giving me one last hug before we got up.

"I don't know. I have never seen her like that before, but she is right… We need to go to school. It is almost noon," I said as I heaved out of bed.

"I can't wait to see if the rumors are true," Kyle exclaimed.

I rolled my eyes as I took a hold of Wade's and Theresa's hands. "Time for the last day that will change everything," I exclaimed as we left my messy room without our backpacks.

As we made our way through the house and down the stairs, Mom and Major were in the kitchen and Mom was crying. "What is wrong, Miss Strickland?" Kyle asked.

"That is Mrs. Heart," Major exclaimed.

We all rolled our eyes as we walked over to Mom. "What is wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing," she said as she wiped the tears away from her face. "I am just sad that it is time for you all to leave and take your final steps as middle schoolers. Where has time gone?"

"Oh, Mom," I said hugging her.

"Don't worry, Miss Strickland. We will all stay the same," Theresa said.

"We will all stay and be like your own children," Wade said.

"I don't know about me. I still want to find a supernatural world that can make me turn into a monster and terrorize the world," Kyle exclaimed as he let out a howl.

Mom cried even harder at the thought. "Mom, it will be okay. Kyle is only joking," I said as I nudged Kyle.

"Yeah, I am only joking, Miss S," he said with a frown.

"I know, you are dear," Mom said as she gave us all a big hug. "Now be good and don't do anything bad at school. This is the day that will change everything," she said as a golden glimpse in her eyes came back.

"We will. Bye, Mom," I said as I gave her a kiss and took Wade and Theresa's hand. "Time for our last day of middle school."

"Yahoo," Kyle said as he led the way to school.

We all started to giggle out the door as Kyle started to howl like a wolf in a town where the mascot was a bobcat. "He is so ridiculous," Wade whispered.

"He is such a misfit," Theresa said.

"But we still love him," I said with a smile.

"You're right," Theresa said as we swayed our way to school.
