1 The Pendant

In front of me laid my elder sister Amelia's sick body, although she was sick and pale she kept that fake smile on, in front of our parents. As my parents and I prepared to leave her and go back to the castle from the country's best hospital my elder sister Amelia, grabs my dress as if to tell me to stay a bit more with her. My parents then decided to leave me with her for a few more hours, so they asked the guards to look over me, and to bring me back to the castle before 6 pm.

While our parents make their way back, my sister pulls me close to her as she sighs. "Take this and keep it safe". She says, as she gives me her most precious pendant, the last and most precious thing her boyfriend gave her before he was killed, the guy who was engaged to our cousin but tried to elope with my sister instead, because they couldn't bear to live knowing one was married to someone else.

"I can't!" I say, as I push it back towards her. "It's way too precious and meaningful to you for me to have it." Amelia looks at me and caresses my face as she says, " I won't be able to protect nor save you, my time is limited and I don't want you to go through what I've gone through. I love you and I want you to be happy. As a princess, I know that we are not allowed the freedom that we so want, desire and deserve. So please take this and promise me that you will live happily. I don't care if anyone needs a princess because you are a person just like me and them. And you mean the world to me. Once you are older promise me that you will live the life you want. Take this pendant, it shall be your protector. If you want to run away in the future do so, and if you do then go in my room, I left my diary in a secret whole behind my bed. It will guide you and tell you whom you should go to for help." "No!" I say to her, I am not running away without you and you still have a lot to live for." Amelia looks at me with a sad look, then points at her self, " I am very sick, the doctors have already predicted that I had only a few weeks left. I don't want you to be imprisoned in the castle, but I can't force you to go anywhere. I can only hope that you will be safe and happy. Now all I can do for you is pray for the love, freedom, and life you deserve. This is my only wish."I then look at her with tears in my eyes," I am sorry that you had to go through what you've gone through. I wish I could grow up and live with you. I am only 8 and you 17, you are so young, and you are the only one who's understood me when the others couldn't." Amelia hugs me and then says" Freesia, promise me that if you ever come visit me at my grave you will bring me a bouquet of Freesia. The freesia flowers are so beautiful just like you, and that's why your name was chosen by me. For those flowers were my favorite, I loved their fragrance and I thought the name would fit you."Then I say, "Sister please stop talking about death, don't talk about it now nor in the future. For no matter what happens, I'll live as if you were here." "You are right, no matter what happens you'll always have me in your heart, and each time you miss me you can hold on to this pendant, and even as a ghost, I'll look over you."
