Family Dinner

Cathy POV.

As I carried my suitcase down the stairs, Richard lowered the window and said coldly, "Get in."

"Okay." I nodded and handed the suitcase to the driver before getting straight into the back compartment.

The atmosphere in the large compartment seemed a little awkward because of the tacit silence between Richard and me.

I put my hands in my lap and hung my head, picking at my nails in boredom.

I was so worried the whole time about what might happen unexpectedly if I saw Richard's family that I didn't even look up to Richard.

And Richard's phone would ring violently after a while, causing him to constantly answer calls and look busy.

Half an hour later, the car pulled up in front of the Grant family villa.

That's when Richard hung up the phone as well.

"Here we are." He reminded me in a low voice.

"Huh? Good." I swallowed nervously.

Richard got out of the car first, and as if he could see my nervousness, he waited beside me quietly and without anxious urging.

But my nerves didn't ease; I felt my whole body shake and my legs were too stiff to move.

"Richard, please wait for me a little longer, I'm nervous ... and need to adjust ..."

My voice was starting to shake too.

"Nervous? What's there to be nervous about?" Richard asked me back in surprise.

I froze momentarily.

Sure enough, a man as cold as Richard simply could not be communicated within a normal human way.

I thought it was likely that he had never experienced the feeling of nervousness; after all, he had always been very confident in himself.

As I managed to adjust to getting out of the car, he suddenly reached out his arm around my waist and whispered to reassure me.

"Don't be nervous, it's my family that's attending the dinner. My grandfather, my grandmother, my mother, and my uncles and aunts."

"Don't worry, especially Grandma, she's always loved you."

"I also have a brother, his name is Simon, he is my uncle's son. He's a soldier and stays in the army a lot and rarely comes home. I don't think he'll have time to come to our wedding."

After briefly introducing me to the members of the Grant family, Richard took me by the hand and walked inside the cottage.

I wasn't surprised that Richard only had one brother.

Unlike other noble families, the Grant family was simple and uncomplicated, something I had learned a long time ago.

Still, even with the small number of people attending the dinner, I couldn't help but be nervous.

This was the Grant family villa, the place where the head of the nobility lived, so how could I not be nervous?

"Oh! Richard, you're finally here! We've been waiting here for a long time!"

Just as I stepped into the lobby of the villa, a gentle voice came from the living room, sounding a little excited.

Before I could react, old Mrs. Grant suddenly appeared in front of me and enthusiastically took me by the hand as we walked towards the living room.

"Cathy, you're here, at last, I've been waiting for you to come and visit me. Are you hungry? The dinner will start soon, so let's go and have a little snack first." Old Mrs. Grant said cheerfully.

I held her arm nervously and responded good-naturedly, "No, old Mrs. Grant, I'm not hungry yet, I ate a little before I came."

We had just walked into the drawing-room when two comfortably dressed aristocratic ladies came out of the kitchen.

They were both wearing aprons, however, and had fruit plates and snacks in their hands.

"This is my mother, Emmabeth." Richard briefly introduced the lady with the fruit plate to me.

After that, he looked to the lady with the snacks and said, "This is my aunt, Kate."

"Hello ladies, I'm Cathy and it's a pleasure to meet you." I greeted them respectfully.

"Cathy, you look so beautiful! Go and rest in the living room first, the dinner will be ready soon."

Richard's mother, Emmabeth, smiled warmly at me, looking very gracious.

"Cathy, you're welcome to be our guest," Kate said warmly too.

I smiled and talked to them for a few moments before being led by Richard towards the stairs.

"Let's go and say hello to Grandpa, he's waiting for you too."

Hearing that I was going to meet with old Mr. Grant, I managed to relax and become nervous again.

But Richard didn't give me any chance to prepare and led me straight to the door of the study upstairs.

In the study, there were two men playing chess. An older man and a middle-aged man.

I assume that these are Richard's grandfather and uncle.

Old Mr. Grant only had two sons, one an official and one a businessman.

The eldest son is currently a government official and the younger son is the founder of the Grant family business, Richard's father.

Richard's father, however, died in a car accident when Richard was a child, much to his regret.

Now that the elder Grant has retired to concentrate on his recuperation, the Grant family business has also been left entirely in Richard's hands.

Overall, the Grant family holds a very high position in both the political and business worlds.

This is the main reason why the Grant family has become the head of the aristocracy.

Of course, this information is not even a secret in aristocratic circles, and I didn't need to deliberately investigate it.

It's just that I never thought I would ever marry into a family as honorable as the Granges.

Thankfully, Richard's family was very accommodating and didn't reject me because of who I was.

By the end of the dinner, my nerves had completely disappeared.

As we chatted on the sofa in the living room, I was given lots of gifts from everyone.

Old Mrs. Grant presented me with an exquisite and beautiful bracelet, and Auntie Kate gave me a top membership card to the beauty salon, which I was told was owned by Auntie Kate.
