Chapter 15 The Herd

The camp was in an immediate panic, John seeing this was a little annoyed. They were just screaming as more walkers were coming to surround them. John seeing as everyone was in a panic, even Rick looked worried, but he quickly ran over to the bag of guns from the RV. Dragging Lori and Carl with him, John also decided to head to the RV because he was worried about Amy.

Seeing her standing there in shock John runs over and brings Andrea and the group of kids he found at the mall. Arriving at the RV, Andrea hugs Amy, comforting her, while John turned around. What he saw shocked him, he saw that many of the campers had been killed and were on the ground. John was confused, but when he saw the herd of walkers coming this way, he understood.

The herd was way bigger than in the show, there had to be at least 100 walkers in this herd. John seeing as many of the camp had been killed, started quick firing his pistol. His aim was constantly shifting, trying to save anyone he could. He had saved many people from being bit. The group was also shooting the guns that they had, but the size of the herd was making them nervous, they also didn't have any proper training to shoot a gun.

John noticed that the herd was getting closer, shoots faster, but he soon runs out of bullets. He had gone through all of his extra magazines. John alone had taken out 84 walkers, the herd was mianly taken care of, as the group although missing the head many times, had a lot of fire power. John seeing there were only about 10 walkers, shouts at the group to stop shooting. They hesitate but follow John words, John seeing that they stopped shooting runs forward with his knife, stabbing each of the walkers in the head.

While John was doing this, a walker had snuck up on Amy once again. John now finished turns back to look at Amy and saw the walker next to her. Amy being completely unaware, saw John throw his knife in her direction as hard as he could, just as the walker was about to grab her, the knife lodges itself into the walker's head.

Shocked once again Amy falls to the ground, John seeing her in such a state runs over and hugs her, whispering in her ear, "I told you I would protect you, didn't I?" Hearing this, Amy regains he focus, hugging John as hard as she could, while crying into his shoulder. When she had calmed down, they stood up, John still holding Amy in his arms.

John looks around the camp and saw that the place was a complete mess. There were bodies everywhere, the ground was littered with them, many of the tents were set on fire. The fire was started by walkers who had walked through flames. Seeing the devastation caused by the herd, John looks at the group of people standing in front of the RV, also looking around the camp with sad expressions. There were only around 30 people left, meaning around 25 people had been lost during this fight.

John walking forward, begins to inspect each body on the ground, leaving Amy with Andrea. The group seeing what John is doing, follow his example and begin checking the bodies, making sure they are truly dead. A while later, all the bodies had been checked, so John starts to drag all the walkers to one pile and dragging the bodies of group member to a separate area, lining them up. John didn't do this alone, the men had helped him, while the kids and women had stayed at the RV, comforting the kids.

When they finished, it was deep into the night, they dragged the unburned tents near the RV, everyone wanting to stay close tonight. John walked towards a tent, Amy and Lily following him inside. He lay down while he held Amy and the little girl. Seeing this everyone else also decided to rest for the night.

A moment later, Amy and Lily were sound asleep. John seeing this, sits up and begins to load his empty clips. When he finished, he left the tent quietly, grabbed Dale's rifle, and climbs onto the RV. John seeing everyone asleep keeps watch, knowing that the sound of gunshots earlier, could draw more walkers to the camp.

Halfway into the night, John saw movement from his tents, Amy comes walking out quietly, looking for John. She saw John up on the RV looking at her, so she climbs up, walking over to John. Amy in front of him, John stands up, saying, "Why are you up so late?".

Amy replies, "I had a nightmare. That I was bit and Andrea was holding me in her arms, panicking.",

John hearing this, hugs her. Embracing her gently, Amy looks up at John staring into his hazel eyes, she says softly, "You would always protect me?"

John staring back into her bright blue eye, says softly, "Of course!" John then leans down, kissing her luscious lips gently.

They stayed together all night, john holding her in his lap while she slept. John keeping watch all night, finally saw the sun starting to rise. The group didn't wake up until 10 am. When they were all awake John gently caressed Amy's hair. Waking up, Amy saw that she was nestled in John's embrace, she saw him looking at her with a smile and smiled back, she then stood up.

John standing up as well, climbed down the RV, grabbing a shovel John begins to dig graves, up on the cliff overlooking the lake. While he was doing that, the rest of the group was dragging bodies, into piles, before burning them.

When he was finished digging, the group started carrying bodies up to the cliff.

The last body in the hole, John starts to fill it. When it was filled, the group came together and started to mourn for their lost friends. When they had finished, the group decided to leave the quarry and go to the CDC.
