Chapter 16 Center for Disease Control (CDC)

With their destination set, the group begins to pack everything they would need. They were unable to take all of the stuff John had brought back to camp, and they didn't want to take it all because they wanted more room for any food, they would find.

While packing, Jacqui had seen blood on Jim's shirt, she lifts it and finds a bite wound. Quickly telling the others about it, Jim says he is fine, but everyone can see that he has a high fever, sweating bullets.

The group decides to take Jim to the CDC with them, in case there is a cure there.

As they finished packing their stuff, they climb into the vehicles. John gets into his armored jeep, with Amy and Lily following him. Andrea decided to ride in the RV, after telling John to take care of Amy. Rick and his family had gotten into another car, Carol and Sophia riding along with them.

Everyone driving to the main rode they turn left, while one car had turned right. Morales and his family decided to leave the group and look for their friends and family that live nearby.

The group drives down the road for 5 hours, but they had to stop because Jim's condition had worsened. John and Rick walk into the RV, seeing Jim very pale. Jacqui had a worried expression and said, "He's not going to make it to the CDC". Jim puke into a bucket, before asking them to kill him.

Rick doesn't want to, but John says, "Okay". John then carries Jim off over to a tree and set him down. He asked him one more time if he wanted to die, but Jim just gave him a firm gaze.

John seeing that his resolve was set in stone, pulled his pistol out of his holster. Jim seeing this closes his eyes, with a smile on his face. John aims at Jim's head and says, "I hope you find you family in the afterlife" John then pulls the trigger. The gunshot sounding especially loud to the ears of the group. John then walks slowly back to the jeep, before climbing inside.

The group trying not to think about what just happened, start to drive again heading to the CDC.

Arriving at the CDC, it was already dark. The group saw tons of bodies on the ground around the area. Rick and the group head towards the door, banging on them. John had stayed in the jeep, while Amy and Lily followed Rick. Knowing that a group of walkers would come. As if on cue, a herd of walkers, comes shambling over.

The heard had at least 150 walkers, seeing the walkers head towards Rick and the group, John gets out of the jeep, before climbing up to the turret. He completely destroys the herd in seconds, the walker crumbling to the ground ripped to shreds by hundreds of bullets. Then he goes running over to the group, as he saw the door of the building had begone rolling open. They all go in, the doors closing behind them.

Standing in the lobby, they hear some footsteps, before they see a man in a lab coat, holding a assault rifle. The man introduces himself as Dr. Kendal Jenner, he says that they can come in and rest, but they have to submit to a blood test.

Rick tells Jenner that the group was willing, the group nodding at his words. Jenner seeing this tells them that once the doors close, they won't be opened again.

Jenner then leads the group to a room where they can sit, while he takes their blood, one by one. When he had finished taking all of their blood, Jenner leads them to a dormitory like area. He explains about the facility, telling the kids about some books and games in the recreational room. He tells the kids not to plug the games in, as it uses too much power. He looks at the adults and says to not use too much hot water for the same reason. The group hearing that there was still hot water, get very excited.

The group had taken turns showering, John decided he would go last, seeing the last person walking out of the shower room. John walks in and takes a quick shower, he then goes to one of the empty rooms and sits by himself, thinking about his plans for the future.
