chapter33 Engaged.

Ever since she heard of Lucas possible engagement, she felt.... agitated. she felt annoyed and snappish.

she had always known that her age long crush on Lucas would never be anything but a silly crush. but the thought of Lucas being a married man and that she couldn't crush on him anymore made her feel things she can't understand. twelve whole years of fantasizing and crushing, all worthless.

after leaving Grace to suffer on her own for hours, Maya showed up claiming that she left because she had important work to attend to. but was she trying to kid?, her work place is located at the other end of the city and both Grace and Anna saw her cone out of the café across the street. Maya ended up bribing the gluttonous pregnant woman with an all you can eat late lunch which they obviously had to drag Grace alone.

Anna took bites off almost everything on the left side of the menu while Grace barely touched her food

"Grace are you okay? you have been playing with your food for a while now" Maya asked worriedly

"yeah, ever since you left the store you have been acting weirdly'

Grace could barely hear what the two ladies were saying. she wasn't listening. instead, she was thinking about Lucas and his engagement.

"Lucas got engaged". she looked at her two confidants for reactions but there was none

"you both knew, didn't you" she accused

they both nodded

"why didn't you tell me?"

"I thought you knew and didn't want to talk about it" Anna said

"same here. you are usually the one with all the latest news on Lucas. so when you didn't talk about it.... I thought.."

"it's.. it is fine. it's none of my business anyway" Grace grimaced at the really of things

'its none of my business'

"I know right, its not like he is your boyfriend or anything. he is not even your ex" Maya said as she dug into her fruit cake

"what the hell Maya!" Anna scolded

"what?...." she looked at Grace "oh..am sorry"

"I'm okay. its just that I having been pinning on same guy for years and now that he is engaged, I can't do that anymore. there is no way am going to crush on a married"

Grace got pissed when her pregnant younger sister started shedding tears of pity for her sake. she knew that it was just Anna's pregnant hormones that is causing her to cry over the slightest things but she didn't want anybody's pity. she didn't know what she wants but it is definitely not pity.

"the truth of the matter is that, you would have been with Lucas if you tried, but you didn't. so there's no need to cry over sour milk" Maya said, still enjoying her fruit cake

"isn't the expression; spilt milk?" Anna asked

"Lucas is still a wholesome piece of fine stuff but also a 'sour' topic for our dear friend"

the two women laughed until Grace shot them a death glare

"maybe you should try dating ag..."

"nope"

"come on Grace, don't tell me you are planning to remain a spinster for the rest of your life"

"maybe"

both Anna and Maya looked her with wide open eyes "what? it is obvious that the universe hate me and I'm not meant to have a love life"

Anna looked disappointed while Maya straight up said it "seriously, I don't get it. you are the type of girl that doesn't give up and gets what she wants. but when it comes to men, you just shrink up and hide. it's kind of disappointing."

the truth can be so bitter sometimes but it is the truth regardless.

it all started when Grace was just ten years old. there was this boy she used to like back then. she can't remember his name or what he looked like but she remember liking him a lot. one faithful day at the school's play ground, she gathered enough courage to tell him.

"I like you. will you be my boyfriend?"

the boys reply was "eww.... Gross"

so she did what came naturally to her. she pushed him of the slide ladder. fortunately yet unfortunately, nothing serious happened to the boy.

when she turned thirteen, she concerned a boy whose name is either Nick, Mike or...? who cares. the point is, she asked a guy out. this time she just said. 'I like you' but his reply was 'uhm....okay' and then he literally ran away and didn't come to school for days.

after that incident, she never asked a guy out again.. she took them. funny enough, no guy has ever asked her out. Ever.

there is no way she would tell anyone about her sob story especially Maya or Anna. the truth change no matter how much anybody try to convince her otherwise. the truth is;

Grace Tang is going to end up sad and alone.

Lucas is now engaged and son to be married. life goes on...
