chapter36 curiosity

it has been two days since the incident in Grace's office and she hasn't heard from Jasmine ever since. but she knew very well that it was just the calm before a storm

so many unanswered questions

'what happened to Jasmine?'

'why did she attack me?"

'and who the fvck is calling me in the middle of the night?'

when she answered the calls from the unknown number, the person refused to speak.

"hello?. hello?."

she waited for the mystery person to respond but instead, the person cut the call.

'weirdo'

almost immediately after, another call came from a different number which turned out to be Luna Lin's who requested to meet up for something 'very important'.

she wasn't in the mood to socialize with anybody but she was curious as to what Lucas's sister wanted especially after his fiancé tried to harass her

as they say, curiosity kills the cat. curious also had Grace sitting alone in one of the most famous restaurants in town for about thirty minutes.

Grace was about to stand up and leave when Lucas the beautiful walked in, making his way straight to her booth.

"hello Miss Grace" Lucas greeted with his signature stunning smile

"hello" Grace grunted. she didn't like being made to look like a fool. plus she was struggling to tune down her excitement of meeting Lucas. she is supposed to be moving on.

"I apologize on behalf of my sister for making you wait for so long" Grace huffed but remain silent. "she... uhm.. she had an accident"

'if Luna having an accident is what it takes to have you all my self, I would have thrown her off a bus ages ago" Grace shaked her head at her own thoughts.

so much for moving on.

"will she be okay?" she asked with all the sincerity she could muster.

"she's fine. I ...I mean she will be fine"

"okay..?"

Grace's curiosity came back with full force. what is so important that instead of canceling the meeting, Luna decided to send her brother?

Lucas Lin cursed his sister and his best friend in all the languages he knew, that is about a dozen languages.

sitting across from him, is the girl of his dreams who is staring at him impatiently because she thinks he has an important massage to deliver.

first, his sister pressured him into his failed attempt at calling Grace. now this?

he spotted Ethan and Luna sitting at the other end of the restaurant. spying on him.

Ethan signaled him to say something.

'don't this idiot have a pregnant wife to annoy?'

"Mr Lin?" Grace called

"y... yes?"

"what is the important issue Luna wanted to talk about?"

'crap' he cursed internally

'what am I supposed to say?'

'when will the ground open up and swallow me?'

'what is the quickest way to kill two people?'

his mind was racing.

"oh.... uhm Luna. I've been trying to teach Luna practical management skills. so that she'd be able to manage at least one of our expansion companies but so far, she had failed every lesson. woefully. she needs strict guidance that I won't be able to give her as her brother and she has formed the habit of threatening my employees with my position. the point is, I have seen your work and you are just the kind of mentor my sister needs" Lucas looked at Grace to see if she was buying what he is saying and she seemed to be thinking about it carefully.

he was not lying but he wasn't being completely truthful either. he just opened his mouth and words came flying out but the more he thought about it, the more the idea appeal to him.

if Grace agrees to take Luna under her wing, he would have more opportunities to meet her and maybe, just maybe they would become close.

"in other words, I should babysit your sister" Grace stated calmly

"no.. no.. no. am asking you for a favour. I promise to return in kind."

"sure. she can come over next week. I think I can help. but before she comes by, make sure she understands that I don't tolerate childishness and sloppiness especially at work." Grace warns firmly.

"thank you. I'll make sure to let her know"

"if that's all, I'll be taking my leave" Grace stood up and extended her hand for handshake. he quickly wiped his hands on his suit pants and shaked her hand.

he watched as Grace exited the restaurant with a dreamy smile on his face. his meeting with Grace made his insides feel warm and fussy. he expected to embarrass himself completely but he didn't, he hopes not.

Ethan and Luna rushed over.

"so?" they asked in unison. smiling brightly and expectantly.

"Luna. you will be working with Grace. starting Monday."

Luna's smile fell "what?!"

his sister would never admit it but he knew for a fact that she is afraid of Grace Tang. he didn't care, she was the one that planned this whole thing and it's time she reaped her reward.
