She frowned upon hearing her best friend's sibling's
name. "What about him?" she asked, shrugging her shoulders.
She's trying her best to be convincing, knowing that she has to
look uninterested as much as possible.
Oddette let out a deep sigh.
"Forget about it. Just hurry up, they're waiting for us in
the restaurant." Oddette stood up from her seat and stretched her
arms into the thin air. She wore her clothes in front of her friend
and then stared right at her, waiting.
"Fine," she answered.
Exhaling a sigh as she finished her routine, she made her
way to grab her phone and exited towards the door. Along the
way, while they were walking straight towards the corridor of
the hotel, they came across a couple coming out of a room.
Emmie stood there frozen stiff.
It was Oddie together with the woman she saw last
night. She felt like her knees suddenly wanted to give up. She
couldn't stand properly. If it weren't for her friend's support, at
any rate, she could have collapsed on the floor.
"That's what I wanted to tell you earlier," Oddette
whispered to which she nodded. Cold sweat wanted to escape
her forehead but she managed to keep herself up. She had a hard
time swallowing and her heart skipping as if it were in a race.
As she noticed the two people turn their heads towards
their direction, her face turned solemn and unexpressive. Oddie
was staring right back at her with a smirk.
"Hi ladies, good morning," Oddie greeted. The woman
clung her arms around his chest, snuggling close to Oddette's
sibling.
"Do you know them?" the woman asked.
"Yes, I do. This is Oddette, my sister and her best friend,
Emmie." She stared at her for a few seconds, eyeing her from
head to toe before nodding. "And ladies, this is Monette," he
added.
"Hi," they said in unison.
They all went together to the restaurant with silence only
following them. It was deafening and hard but she has to endure
it.
Emmie's hand clenched into a fist, she noticed the
woman leeching off at Oddie. She could easily tell that she was
just there like a flirt and yet she can't do anything about it.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, they saw Alfred and
Miranda sitting on a table already. They were eating their
breakfast.
"Good morning," they greeted each other. They all went
to get their food and then just like that, acted as if nothing
happened.
Emmie let out a sigh. She wanted to escape the situation,
cry and never come back however, she will only look pathetic.
Along her way to grabbing a French bread from the
counter, a voice spoke from behind her.
"Good morning, Beauty."
"Good morning," she greeted, looking uninterested.
"Did you sleep well last night?"
She stopped for a moment to look at the man. She was
right, he was the same person from last night; James.
"Yes," she replied. "Although, I had a bad dream."
"Oh," the man paused for a second, chuckling. It looked
like he was planning in following her all over the place as he
also headed towards the beverages. "Was the dream about me?"
he asked teasingly, to her scowling expression.
The man only stood there with a thin smile on his face.
She didn't answer him.
"Which one do you want?" he asked, upon seeing her
grab a glass. He poured an orange juice into his own as he
continued to stare at her.
"I will get the same," she answered.
When they were both done, James immediately thought
off escorting her. He followed her where she was going, only to
notice her same mundane expression.
"Where's your table?"
"I'm in that group," she replied.
Since it was a complimentary breakfast from the Resort,
they were free to have the breakfast whenever they wanted. She
only had a French bread along with cheese cubes, sliced avocado
and green olive. Her scrambled eggs will be served soon.
However, before she could even make it back to her
table, James already excused himself and went to another, alone.
Her attention then suddenly darted towards her best friend,
thinking how shameless of her to quickly forget about her
companion.
Oddette was approaching her with food on her plate and
a watermelon juice.
Upon reaching their table, they spotted the couple almost
finished with their food while Oddie and Monette were missing.
Her eyes roamed the area for a second, only to pull the chair in
their table and sit. She shouldn't care about them anymore. She
couldn't and she shouldn't.
As she started munching off with the food on her plate, it
was then that the waiter arrived together with the long lost
couple. The woman was holding onto two glasses of orange juice
while Oddie was putting their plates on the table.
Her scrambled eggs served by the waiter looked
appetizing however, Emmie couldn't eat it properly now. The
food tasted bland, hard and salty. For some reason, it felt like she
was sick into the pit of her stomach yet she couldn't complain at
all.
Her hand squeezed along the utensils in her hand. She
had no courage to lift her gaze and look at the couple in front of
her; smiling and giggling among themselves. She was afraid of
crystals forming at the corner of her eyes. She can't afford to cry
here.
