The Pain Of… I 35A

=Steph gave orders to the nurses beside her as they all briskly walked down the hall. An open file on her tablet, the nurse to her left pointing at something on the screen as they passed by patients waiting to see other doctors. She nodded, spoke and listened until she got to her office door. The two nurses nodded in response to her order and split away from her. She got in her office and left the door open for the out patients that would be coming in. Less than two minutes after taking a seat behind her desk, her phone rang in her purse. She took it out and was confused and shocked by the caller ID. Her forehead creased in wonder, she answered, “Bev?” An expected patient already sitting in front of her.

“Mrs. Wade.”

“What is it?” She glanced at the phone against her ear. “Could you not find something on the list? Is there something you need me to get?” She was so confused, it didn’t occur to her to let Bev speak. Bev rarely calls her.

“No that’s not it.”
