Five friends held their breaths as they waited for an answer from Symphony. “Yes.” Damn. Pain in her voice. “Every insult, every cruel joke, every pain wasn’t because I love you. I love you. I do, but all that was anger and retaliation to your cruel jokes and the pain. I had to do something and I kept doing it until I felt nothing. Alastair, it shouldn’t be like this. Not at all.” Alastair had covered his face with his hands.

“We never apologize to each other, we just hurt and keep going. Don’t you think that it’s crazy that we didn’t end up in the same school? Tyson and Viola did. Not us. I think about that sometimes and I wonder if we wanted to be away from each other.” She chuckled. “We love our friends but we don’t treat them the way we treat each other.”

“Do you get it now?” Viola whispered to Tyson and Cassius.

“Viola, do you get that we don’t want them to break up?” Cassius asked. “Are you thinking far ahead?” Cassius jabbed his temple with his index finger.
