Chapter 3

The table seemed to have turned now. The purple demon tried to hit me with his right claw. Now, what was a fast attack that I could barely avoid, became a slide show in front of my eyes. I hit his claw with the bat and went forward to kick in his abdomen. This is the first time I have kicked anyone; I tried to follow what I have seen in the movies. The kick landed perfectly, and he was launched to the other side of the room. I lowered my feet and walked towards him.

He laid there for a few seconds before standing up with a shocked expression. There was blood on his lips that he wiped with his left hand. His right hand seemed to be hurt. That made me grip my bat again. I didn't have much time. I need to finish him before the temporary increase to my stats goes away. I don't have any more fat in my body to sacrifice this time. I raised the bat and ran at him.

Balaam! Another surprise for me was I hit the wall right beside the demon. I underestimated the agility increase; I am not used to this. I fell to the ground as a natural response. The demon took this chance to stand up and walk towards the back door on the opposite side, which I came in. That meant only one thing, he hid the girls in that room and was going to get them.

Damn it. I stood up and ran behind him into the room.

Entering the room was a mistake at this time. What the hell this demon has been doing? The whole room had human corpses without skin hanging from the ceiling. This made my stomach very unstable. But I didn't have much time. He was moving towards the girls tied to the ceiling just like the other corpses, but luckily they were breathing. Even if I run fast, I will not catch him. I still didn't have mastery over my speed. I stopped running and stood there before raising my baseball bat and throwing it as hard as I could, aiming at the demon's head.

Blood splattered everywhere; I didn't miss it. The lifeless body hit the floor, and I let out a sigh of relief. I looked at the girls who were hanging in there. Dana had some blood on her face from the demon just now, and she was showing signs of opening her eyes.

"What is this?" She opened her eyes and looked around, "Ohh god!" And she screamed as loud as she could.

"Shut up!" I looked at her as I sat on the floor. The two minutes were up, and I felt slightly numb all over my body. "Do you want to call every other ghoul in the area to here?"

She looked at me and then at the lifeless body of the Purple Demon, and then she looked at Aria beside her. Watching her breathing, she let out a sigh, and she then looked at me again with a look of gratitude and surprise. I guess she noticed how skinny I got.

I ignored her and closed my eyes, but my eyebrows were left in a very annoying state. I have not done the amount of work in this past few minutes in weeks. And these girls are the cause of all this. Useless girls, let them be hanging there for a few more minutes.

" < Touch of Gaia > Effects has returned to normal. All temporary effects are removed. The core effects of program E192 have changed. Program E192 has leveled up by 1 level.

Name: Jurian Forst,

Age: 17.

Level: 6 (20/120)

Rank: Beginner.

Class: Undefined.

Mana: 100.

Kills: 23."

Another system message in my head.

"How to level up, system?" I asked in my mind.

"Program E192 can level up by either killing enemies and/or by completing quests. Currently unfinished quests: None." So that's how it is. But I still cannot understand why there is something like this helping me. Is it some kind of gift from God? I looked up.

"What is the purpose of the system?" I asked in my mind again, but there was no answer this time. "What is the purpose of Program E192?" I asked a different question again.

"The purpose of Program E192 is to survive the attack from the demon realm remnants, get stronger, and secure the planet."

"Who made program E192?"

No more answers this time. Whatever! I had to get stronger and also survive. I guess that comes first before anything else.

I opened my eyes, and both Dana and Aria looked at me with wide eyes. As if they had seen a ghost.

"I obtained power of some kind. Which let me convert my fat into usable energy." I looked at them and said. I then looked around the room. I didn't bring any sharp objects. I cannot cut the ropes to release them.

There was a knife behind Dana. That was her knife. I went there and picked it up. Not looking at the nearby hanging corpses. My body still tingled at the thought of them. My eyes wanted to look at them, but I had to control the urge.

I cut the ropes, and both sisters were on the ground. They were terrified and looked at the bottom to avoid looking at the corpses. The purple demon was stocking up bodies to eat later.

"You didn't search the upper floors, right?" I asked Dana.

"Yes, as soon as we got to this floor, that thing caught us, and then I cannot remember anything else. The next time I opened my eyes, you were sitting in front of me." Dana replied.

"Let's search the upper floors then. I don't think anything else will be in this building. The presence of this strong demon should make the lesser ones avoid this building. We need more food for our journey." After saying it, I knew I had said something wrong. Dana vomited right away, and Aria wasn't any better. I wasn't feeling well after coming out of that room and thinking of food. My stomach was growling, but the scenes of that room made me lose any appetite. I let go of the idea of searching the upper floors.

Aria caught Dana and grabbed her forehead. She didn't look like she was feeling any good, but she tried to help her sister. That girl didn't talk too much but did everything she was expected to do.

I went forward and grabbed Dana and took her in my arms. She was surprisingly light. Or maybe because the system increased my strength.

"Wait, what are you doing?" I looked at Dana, and she was blushing all over. I didn't have the thoughts that she might have.

"Keep it quiet!" I walked towards the stairs heading downwards. I have no more intention of searching for food anymore. We had enough for a few more days. And we can search for more tomorrow.

Aria grabbed the end of my loose pants and followed me. After coming to the ground floor, I looked at the main door. It was still open, but nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. I walked towards the room we had occupied before and locked the door. I laid Dana on the bed.

"Be more useful from next time." I sat on the floor in front of everything that I got out of the bag. "I worked too hard today." I felt sleepy but didn't feel like taking the bed for myself. Maybe if nothing happened today, I might. And put the girls on the floor. Tonight I will let them enjoy, I guess. Those useless girls.

Aria set up a blanket in one of their bags in a corner. We have blankets like that, in case there are no beds in places we sleep. I also brought out mine to make arrangements for my sleep.

No sound from outside came inside. But that didn't mean that nothing was out. The outside was filled with death and terror. Tomorrow will be a big day.
