Chapter 18

Joshua's P.O.V

Later that day, I decided to go for a drive. It was already dark so I decided to pass by Precious' place since I have been ignoring her calls. She was probably angry at me right now. I got to the front door and Mrs. Simons opened the door immediately at my first knock. She looked frustrated and stressed.

"Josh, thank God you're here," she squeezed my shoulder.

"Mrs. Simons?" I replied "What's the matter?"

"Precious is missing," she said looking at me with her teary eyes "I can't find her, I looked everywhere and she's not answering my calls."

"Let's go look for her," I said as I turned and headed to the car.

"Let me grab my phone," she ran to the house as I went to stand next to the car.

As Mrs. Simons was in the house, I tried calling Precious' phone and I could hear her phone ringing just nearby. Mrs. Simons came out of the house running.

"Let's go!" she said.

"Wait," I replied "Can you hear that?"

"Hear what?" she asked.

I remembered that my hearing was not that of a normal human being, I could hear things that were far from me and that human beings couldn't hear.

"Never mind get in the car," I said "Can you keep calling her?"

While Mrs. Simons called, I followed the sound until we arrived at a corner whereby the sound of her phone got even stronger. I stopped the car.

"Why are you stopping?" Mrs. Simons asked.

"I see something," I replied "wait here, I'm coming."

"Be careful," Mrs. Simons said.

Without saying a word to her I walked towards the corner and this time I could hear her heartbeat. As I approached the corner, I saw her lying on the ground. I ran over to her and leaned over, as she stared at me with her weak eyes. There was a look of relief in her eyes, she started breathing heavily.

"Josh…"

"Sh," I interrupted her "you're safe now."

I picked her up and I could smell a familiar scent on her. I also noticed bruises on her arms like someone was pressing her against the ground. I carried her back to the car and her mother ran towards us as soon as she saw me carrying her.

"My baby," Mrs. Simons touched her face "thank you so much Josh."

"It's okay Mrs. Simons," I replied "let's rush her to the hospital."

I put Precious in the back seat then we rushed to the hospital. She was admitted 30 minutes after we got to the hospital, we sat on the benches and waiting for the doctor to inform us about her state. Mrs. Simons glanced at me.

"Why do you love my daughter so much?" she asked.

"What?" I coughed.

"Do you love my daughter?" she brought that pressing question again.

"I-I do," I stammered "yeah, I do."

"You know Josh," she breathed out "when I was young, a prophecy was given to me that my one and only daughter is going to marry into a werewolf family and her offspring will unite the humans and the werewolf."

"Well, I…"

"Do you believe in werewolves Josh?" she asked.

I mean this was Pricilla Simons asking me that question, this woman had so much respect given to her by my kind. I was not sure if she figured that I was a werewolf or what but I couldn't just reveal my identity to her.

"Well, my granddad tells a lot of stories about them," I replied.

"I know that you love my daughter," she said "I can see it through your eyes, every time she walks into a room they light up. Never stop loving my daughter, even if she ends up with a certain werewolf somewhere."

"Okay, ma'am," I nodded "let me go get us something to eat."

I went outside the hospital, with her word ringing in my head then remembered something that my mother also said to me years ago.

"Joshua, you carry a very big task. The peace between the humans and the werewolves can be only come through you and your offspring."

Those were my mother's words, what Mrs. Simons said about Precious ending up with a werewolf somewhere, confirmed everything. Maybe Precious and I were destined to be together. I took out my phone and dialed Uncle Bas' number.

"Hey, it's late where are you?" he answered the call.

"I'm at a friend's place," I replied "I will be back tomorrow morning."

"Okay," he replied "please come back before 11:00, there's a meeting I want us to attend."

"No problem," I hung up.

I grabbed 2 hot dogs from the stand that was right in front of the hospital and went back inside. I found Mrs. Simons sleeping on the bench, so I took my jacket and covered her with it. As a werewolf, I could stay a day or two with no sleep so I just sat on the bench offering my thigh as a pillow to Mrs. Simons. In the morning, the doctor came to inform us about Precious' state.

"Mrs. Simons," I woke her up.

Waking up with her head on top of my thigh felt awkward for a second as we exchanged a couple of shy glances at each other.

"Oh, doc," she said "how is she?"

"We checked her and tested everything," the doctor said "there are no signs of being sexually assaulted. However, the bruises on her are not of a human being."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Werewolves?" Mrs. Simons also asked.

"We assume that she might've met werewolves along the way yes," the doctor said "but the good news is that she's getting discharged today, there are no severe injuries she was just in shock."

"Okay, thank you doctor," Mrs. Simons nodded.

The scent I smelled on her was definitely of someone I knew, someone in the werewolf kingdom. Mrs. Simons was called into Precious' ward, and 10 minutes later they both came out of the ward. Precious smiled at my sight, she came and gave me a hug.

"Thank you," she whispered in my ear.

"Your mom is watching," I whispered back.

We both giggled.

"Let's take you home," Mrs. Simons said.

After dropping them, Mrs. Simons asked me to stay for breakfast but I told her that my uncle was probably waiting for me so she had to release me. Deep down something told me that she already noticed that I was a werewolf and she was just pretending as if she didn't know what I was so I had to play along. When I got my uncle's place it was already 10:30, I had to rush to the shower then put on the tuxedo that I found on top of the bed. My aunt's jaw dropped when she saw me coming through the stairs.

"Wow, look at you," she said.

"You now look like a real future king of the werewolf kingdom," Uncle Bas exclaimed.

"Thank you, guys," I blushed.

"We're late, let's go," Uncle Bas glanced at his wrist watch.

We rushed outside a where a convoy was prepared to accompany us to the werewolf parliament. It's been a while since I attended one of these great werewolf meetings, my dad was also starting to attend these functions since he was banned and barred from any werewolf prestigious premises.

Arriving at the werewolf parliament, some of the people would change into their original werewolf form because this is where we were all free to be ourselves. Walking out of the car and stepping on that red carpet, which felt so amazing. Red carpets are human things, right? All the attention was on us since we were the last to enter the parliament. Walking through the doors, I made eye contact with my mother. She came and gave me a hug.

"How are you?" she asked.

"I'm okay," I replied "And you?"

"I'm okay," she mumbled her words out "come back home."

"Mom, not here," I replied as I saw my dad coming towards us "I will be sitting with Uncle Bas."

I just exchanged looks with my dad as I walked away while he was approaching. I could see through my mom's eyes that what was happening was really affecting her in a wrong way and it kind of bothered me deep down.
