Casting

It was lunchtime and Kayhari, Lance, and I had summarized the events of the day before. The second secret door and the play made him seem excited. As decided the day before, we all met up in the library to see if Suki had finished assigning our parts for the script, or if she was actually going to tell us what the play was about at all.

"Hi Suki! We have arrived!" Kayhari announced as the four of us, along with our gurdians entered the library. "What are we doing?"

Rinna, Owen and Laura had already arrived and turned to greet us. Rinna counted heads, "That's eight of us. Where are Samm and Camm?"

"I think Samm decided to take the sceenic route and made Camm come with him somehow," Laura sighed, most likely in disappointment for her anxious little brother and his pushover of a twin. "Maybe I should go find them."

"Laura!" A shocked yell came from across the library on the lower floor. "How dare you assume such a horrible thing about ME, YOUR OWN BROTHER!"

"Here comes one of his dramatic monologues," she pinched the bridge of her nose, preparing for Samm's speech. She must have been used to her annoying little brother.

Suki stood up abruptly and walked over to the rail to scream at Samm on the lower floor. "Get your brother and you stupidly small amount of braincells to this table!"

A shush could be heard from multiple other people in the library. The librarian himself looked like he wanted to kill us. We all whispered back, "Sorry!"

The twins came up to the table Suki was working at and we all sat down. Suki began to explain her plans. "It took me all night, but I finished cutting out all the unimportant scenes and summarizing them into a skit-length script."

Everyone marveled at her effort, with a script and dark circals under her eyes to back up her story. Owen complemented, "This is amazing. How long did it take you?"

"Four hours!" she boasted, but she had bragging rights in my eyes. "And I read the entire script during class!"

"What's the story?" Kayhari beamed with interest, and Suki was existed to tell.

"To sum it up, the story is about a mermaid princess who is being forced to marry a jerk of a prince from a powerful kingdom. His parents are just as bad, but the princess's parents know that if she goes through with it, the money will help their dying kingdom," Suki started, drawing in the class's complete attention. "The princess comes up with a risky, yet plausible plan to escape and her loyal guard agrees to help her."

"Do they get out alive?" Samm interrupted. "Or do they get caught and the king kill the guard!?"

"No one died, Samm," Suki rolled her eyes. "I'm sorry that we can't have an onstage execution for your sake."

"Aww," groaned the short boy. "No murder?"

"Continue!" Kayhari cut him off to hear the rest of the story.

"The plan was to escape at the wedding, but the prince finds her and convinces her to stay," Suki continued. "Then she escapes two years later after her guard breaks in to see her. The mermaid has had her daughter now and they make their daring escape to this grotto with a portal in it, or something like that."

Suki was frantically searching through the script to find the next part of the story. Samm injected. "So... is she greeted with death on the other side of the portal?"

The black-haired girl looked up. Her stare full of anger could kill someone, and in this case, Samm. "Are you looking for a fight?"

"Not really," Samm stayed quiet, to not provoke the beast anymore.

"Anyway, the scene cuts off with the princess going through the portal with her daughter, so they could both live in peace. The end," finished Suki and Kai started clapping.

"That was an amazing story!" he applauded as she sorted the papers.

"Well, I can't really take credit, but thank you," she smiled and moved on. "Now, the first thing we should do is casting. Fair warning, not everyone will have a role because there are not enough parts for everyone to play."

My eyes lit up. "I can paint the backdrop or something!"

"Hold on, Lily," she cut me off and my heart sank. The last thing I wanted was for her to torcher me with someone who would have lots of lines.

"Laura, could you help me with casting?" she asked and Laura smiled.

"Sure, what do you want me to do?" she asked.

"First, everyone look through the script and see which character you would feel the best playing," Kayhari snatched the script from Suki and started flipping through the pages.

I knew the script would take a while to get around to me, so I decided to walk over to Suki and Laura. If I was lucky, I could secure a safe roll off stage. "What are you guys' thinking for the casting?"

Suki told us to lean in. "If it's okay with Laura, I was thinking of casting Samm as the snobby prince."

"That is about the most fitting role for him, in my opinion," Laura replied, letting Suki go on with her plan.

"I don't think there is another role he can pull off anyway," I laughed, maybe besides the evil parents.

Aqua, who hadn't been paying much attention like the other guardians floated over to us, "I think Lily should be the princess."

"WHAT!?" I shrieked at the sheer thought. "Oh, heck no, I'm not!"

"Actually, Aqua is right. Your personalities are similar," Suki commented. I wasn't getting out of this after all.

"What? But I have never even been on stage," I rejected. "What if I have stage fright I don't know about, or forget my lines?"

"Relax, incompetent child," Suki was quick to shut me up. "This play is more of a skit, and the parts between the princess and the guard are evenly distributed. I made it that way because I knew someone would probably forget something and the other person could easily remind them."

"Oh," is all I could say. "I have to say, you are more calculated than you seem."

"Thank you," she accepted, before totally changing her perception of the statement. "Wait, that is that supposed to mean?"

"No, but seriously, how did you do this for four hours?" I changed the subject before I could start a fight.

"That doesn't matter," she turned down the question. "Will you be the princess or not?"

Before I could answer, Aqua put her paws over my mouth. "She'll do it!"

If I was allowed to scream in the library, I would have screamed loud enough to shatter the windows. Her paws were still covering my mouth as Suki wrote my name down in the place of the princess. I was doomed.

In the end, the cast list looked like this:

Princess: Lily

Guard: Camm

Prince: Samm

Good Queen: Kayhari

Good King: Lance

Evil Queen: Rinna

Evil King: Owen

Kai was in charge of sound effects, Larua was using her light magic for lighting and Suki was in charge of directing and costumes. As the casting was finalized, the bell rang.
