Chapter 4 Chapter 4

'I was addicted to a losing game'

****

Is there anything quite as blissful as an amble by the seashore? It's like strolling through an airy womb of sky and sound. The sea was a cerulean-blue gown and the beach seems dipped in earthshine-gold. The waves in the distance were like white creases on a vast bale of velvet and the lolling of the yachts was both rhythmic and mesmerising.

It was not often you get to see a sunrise-gold beach. That was our privilege as we gazed out at the slothful sea. Ebbing ever so gently, it looked at peace in its jade-green gown. It felt like we were walking on a carpet of candy floss, such was its softness. The golden sand swept around in a scythe of beach, hemmed in by towering dunes.

The horizon seemed to be stitched with a silver line. The seagulls were squawking over our heads and squabbling for morsels from the hotel kitchen. As the sun scorched our bodies to a crisp, a funfair of barbecued aromas drifted towards us. The saline tang of the sea mingled with the cuisine, adding salt to its appeal.

"It's getting late."

Indeed it was.

I was supposed to be out of this place minutes ago but my desiring heart wanted to live in the moment of bliss. I wanted to cherish these moments because I knew tomorrow they would be mere fragments of memories.

"We should go." The words betrayed me. My eyes were still enjoying rather than my heart, which was getting squeezed into nothing.

His warm hands rested on my lower back as he gently pulled me back and with a gentle push, he made us move.

The serenity of beach vanished like it never existed and I was again trapped with my thoughts. My traitorous mind again seemed to surrounded by unwanted yet realistic thoughts. It was like the past was rising a toast to my broken heart.

"Karl must be getting anxious. He never stopped without you."

Karl.

Despite of everything, my heart again did a crime by felling in love with that fine boy. But like previously, I didn't regret it. The love I was giving him, he was returning it back with few extra pennies.

A small smile formed on my face thinking about him.

"I know. He loves me." I looked up at annoyed face of Elijah who was frowning.

"I know and that's what I don't understand. I pamper him with everything I could possibly do but that traitor never shows me an ounce of love, why so? I wonder." He exclaimed.

I again chuckled slowly pressing the back of my hand against my mouth.

"Stop showing him your fangs, maybe he'll stop crying whenever you come around." I quipped. Elijah's awfully sharp fangs were the reason Karl always ended up crying and hide in my chest.

"Hey! My fangs are cool!" He offended and I again laughed.

"Are they now?" I stopped when I heard familiar voice and Elijah's arms around me tightened drastically. I wasn't expecting to hear from him, at least not this early.

Elijah slowly turned around and gently pushed me behind him, blocking my view of the man. The back muscles underneath Elijah's dark grey shirt tensed as his fists clenched together.

"What are you doing here?" The snarl that escaped his mouth made me realise whatever was happening was going to get messy if I didn't stepped in.

"Hello, Nicholas." I said as I softly stepped out from Elijah's backside and stood next to him with my tone awfully tranquil.

"Ahh! Now this was what I wanted, a lovely lady to acknowledge my presence." Sarcasm was dripping by the tone he was speaking with

"Did you need anything?" I asked as Elijah gently wrapped his arm around my waist protectively.

"Straight to business, I like it. But this time I don't need anything from you rather from the little wolf you have in your apartment."

Karl?

"You said you'll keep him out of this!" My voice suddenly rose and I didn't lower it. He wasn't going to touch my little boy. God help me, if he'll ever do him any harm.

"I said that?...." He frowned his brows. My body immediately acted on impulse as he took a step towards us. "Well guess what?...I don't remember."

"I'll help you remember. What say?" Elijah growled as he stepped forward but I immediately pulled him back.

"Karl is out of question. Tell me what I can do." I mumbled afraid of his answer. I knew I shouldn't be, it was not like I was doing a sin or whatsoever but still.

"I need werewolf blood and you being humans and this fucking moron being a vampire is out of sheets, so, only left one option left...that little werewolf." He scoffed and I do badly wanted to punch him but I wasn't going to do that.

"I'll bring you werewolf blood but you will keep Karl out of the picture!" Elijah snarled angrily and I tightened my arms around his.

"Well then! You have two days. I need to complete some ritual." He said before turning around and walking behind building vanishing from our sight.

"Come, it's getting late." Elijah's tensed voice brought me out of daze and nodded before following him with his protective arm around me and his tensed muscles bulging out of his clothes.

Nicholas Volkov. You might be wondering, he was a warlock, who unfortunately happened to save us.

And yes! I was alive.

Woefully.

I didn't wanted to step foot in this world, filled with cruelty, savagery filled with deceivers present on every step. I was finally free but something dragged me back by my shattered heart and my abandoned past.

A soft voice of song fell into my ears though my eyes were closed shut. Fresh fragrance of lavenders and roses filled my nostrils and believe me I could smell faint ting of lilacs too, though my eyes were closed. A faint whisper echoed in my head as I tried to remember what was happening.

You're dead.

I imagined the moment before death would be sheer panic, that my survival instinct would overdrive, a desperate and futile search for some reprieve would overwhelmed me. That it merely would be a few moments of consummate terror, and that would be my last memory of life.

But unfortunately it wasn't. I remembered everything like a new tv show and worse luckily take a trip down memory lane and recollected all that happened.

I tried to open my eyes when enchanting voice along with captivating lullaby entered my ears again. With difficult, I slowly lifted my heavy lid and immediately regretted when warm and eye piercing rays of sunlight blinded my vision.

A moment later, I tried again and successfully opened them before trying to sit up. I rubbed my temples carefully as I looked around.

Unfamiliarity.

Strange place greeted me as I turned around. But yet it was beautiful. The place where I was, was surrounded with rocks and cliffs with thousands and millions of red and blue flowers along with greenery of their leaves covering the brown rocks.

I felt the soft particles of sand underneath my feet. And as I turned around to look behind me, I gasped. There was a beautiful silver coloured ocean greeting me back with it's high waves splashing inside it. I could easily tell how deep it was by the look. It was spreading like a eagle in all directions.

When suddenly I heard it again.

The sounds, the lullabies.

Feeling to hear more, I get up and walked towards the voice. It was coming from beside me where tall, dark trees were situated. I walked as sounds become louder and louder passing step. I stopped as the sound become too enchanted. I looked around and paused when tall green bush blocked my view.

It was coming behind the bush.

Curiosity get the best of me and I tip toed towards the bush. Gently parting the bush, I saw what was laying behind it.

And I didn't regretted it. My eyes widened in awe as I saw tall beautiful waterfall cascading it's bright blue waves down the cliff, calming into beautiful pond beneath it. The pebbles could be seen and the beautiful colorful flowers surrounding it enhanced it's beauty thousand times. But it was another only think worth awing.

There was a woman with silver floor length hairs flowing on the surface of water, facing towards the rock wearing nothing but beauty. I could tell, she was sthe one who was singing because now the sound was coming from her.

"Creepy much." I jumped when she said and my eyes widened when she turned around. Her violet enchanting eyes looked at me and sher bright pink lips curved in a smile as she raised her brows expecting me to speak.

"I-I am s-sorry."

"No need to be sorry, love. It's nothing you don't have." And then I realised what she meant.

She was naked, only waves of water was hiding her lower portion. I immediately turned around before mumbling sorry. I heard her laugh and heard footsteps and shuffling.

"Now better?" She asked as she stepped in front of me now wearing a thin white clothes wrapped around her body curves. Her beautiful angels face looked down at me and then I realised, I might had a thing for girls too.

Just kidding.

She was u deniably beautiful and god help me, if I wanted to kiss her.

Kidding.

Maybe.

"Are you alright?" Her angel voice broke my train of nasty thoughts as she pointed towards my abdomen. I followed her gaze and gasped. There was a huge crimson colored stain on my dress and when I looked closely, it wasn't a stain. It was my blood.

I remember.

I stabbed myself and I wasn't feeling anything despite I was wearing same clothes I was wearing when I died.

Am I even dead?

I ran my hand through front of dress and pressure the wound. Nothing. I felt nothing. No pain. No feel.

"I-I-"

"It's alright, you won't feel anything. It's the beauty of this place. You won't feel any emotion here which brings you pain, hurt."

Maybe I should book a room here to spend rest of my dead life here.

No, I wasn't kidding.

"Who are you?" Question slipped my mouth as she grinned at me before motioning around.

"I'm someone who don't want you here." She said.

"Why?"

"You don't belong here."

"Am I dead?"

You are, stupid!

"You are not."

"H-How?" I exasperated. I was supposed to be! Duh!

"Go back, Sarah. You have lot to live for." She said first time showing something on her beautiful face.

"I have nothing left." I said as I rubbed my stomach. If I was dead, my unborn children would be dead.

"You have, believe me. You children didn't sacrificed themselves to see their mother kicking their gift."

"What're you talking about?"

She smiled and grabbed my shoulders and leaned in.

"Your unborn child saved you, channeling their powers and breaking the bond you had with Melissa. When you died, the bond break and Melissa met her fate but carrying tribrid as a child is all about power. They saved you and sacrificed themselves."

I looked agaped at her with eyes widened and mouth slightly ajar. My child? My babies? I'm not dead?

"Tribrid?"

"You see, your mother was a witch and your father carried witch blood in his veins but his were recessive, so his werewolf gene dominate his witch gene and when you born, being first girl child in Sullivan clan, you had witch blood in you but yours was recessive, it only showed it's true power when you carried a hybrid's child. And now that your again alive with no children, you're again a human."

Was that supposed to make me relieved?

Now I understand why Melissa wanted dmy children dead. She was afraid what their power would do to her. But again, I was a loser. I was lost in hands of my fate. I was disgrace to mother word. Living without my children was something I was ready to do. It was better if I would be dead. I didn't wished to live life knowing my children sacrificed themselves to save my pathetic life.

"It's destiny, Love. Cherish what you have. Find what you've lost. Make their sacrifice worth, don't disappoint them. They loved you and by the tears you're shedding, you love them too."

And that's when I let the tears flow down my face. My heart clenched as I thought her words. They loved mE? My babies! How would they looked? How would it sound when they would call me mama? Were they boys or girls or both? Were they like me? Or had his feature?

His.

Rejection.

Abandonment.

Desertion.

"Start a new life, a new journey, with what you have not what you have lost. Cherish what you have." She whispered in my ears before placing a soft kiss on my cheeks.

She was right. I couldn't let the sacrifice of my children go in vain. I was not a coward. There was possibility of me to start fresh, a new start.

"Go back before I decide to keep you for myself. You know..." I looked at her violet eyes as she smirked. "I have a thing for brunettes."

I smiled apologetically and hugged her tightly.

"Go back..." She whispered in my ears as I feel something wet falling on my shoulder. She was crying? Before I could pull back to look at her, a bright light blinded my vision and I felt myself falling down a cliff as a scream rippled through my chest.

"Sarah! Sarah!" A panicked voice ranger in my ears as a sharp pain resonated in my abdomen. I immediately opened my eyes as familiar face came into view. I looked around finding familiar ashed walls of mansion I was previously in. The cliffs and flowers were replaced with blood and dead bodies. The serenity of ocean was no longer to keep me calm, instead it was replaced with Elijah's relief filled sighs and grnts.

Elijah?

"Y-you're a-alive." I didn't mean it to sound so shocking but I couldn't help.

He rolled his eyes before wiping beads of blood from his head.

"Well, thanks. It's good to see you again, too." He said.sarcastically and I battled to lessen the pain erupting from my stomach. I unconsciously rubbed my belly and realise that I lost something precious. I felt empty within, it was like something was smart hed away from me.

My babies!

"I mean, H-How are you alive?" It was relevant. Did he met that lady too? What was her name?

You never asked!

"I don't know. I could ask you same. But when my eyes opened I was in this place surrounded with nasty looking flowers and seats and sand and there was this sexy woman, oh fuck! She was a fine piece of art!...whatever, but her actions were nasty, she nearly choked me with her hairs and dangled me from trees......but in the end she leave me before saying 'fuck of', how polite." He threw his hands in air as he rambled. Indeed he was in that mysterious place.

"She said something about bond breaking. I didn't get it." He frowned as he helped me up. I winced when pain become unbearable to handle.

"You okay?" He asked and I nodded my head.

"We need to find Lucifer." He mumbled and I stopped.

No! I wouldn't let him destroy me again.

"Can we go somewhere else? Like away from...all this.....I-I want peace...for once." I mumbled and never realised how broken I sound. I didn't wanted to see him again. His rejection still was as clear as wound in my stomach.

Elijah looked carefully at me as he raised this hand and wiped the traitorous tear escaping my eyes and he sighed deeply.

"Alright."

"Thank you."

"Thank you."

"No problem, your highness."

"Ma..ma"

I smiled brightly when I saw the light of my world. His bright jade green eyes looked up at me making me realise how much he resembled him. His dark hairs made me realised how much I missed him.

The cartoons in his hands were like little swords for him to attack on white sheets. A small pout was on his pink, thin lips as he looked at Elijah.

"Oh come on, little man! Don't give me that look. I ain't stealing your 'mamma'." Elijah groaned as he settled himself on seat beside me, throwing his hands over my shoulder as he rubbed soothing circles on my arm.

In this spam of seven months, we had become close, a lot more closer actually. Sitting with each other arms around other was normal. I never minded, I needed his comfort.

Karl's lips trembled as I sighed. He was going to cry. And I predicted right. His lips trembled and caryons left his clutches and his cheeks tainted red and he opened his mouth.

"Not again!" Elijah groaned as I immediately rushed to Karl and crouched down before scooping him in my arms protectively. I hushed him as his cried lowered and he finally stopped. I heard Elijah standing up and stepping in front of me as Karl pulled himself away from my neck and looked at Elijah with a small smile.

"Da..dda." He stuttered his words and I laughed. Karl never liked Elijah with me. He wanted dmy full attention always and when wanted Elijah's attention, he would simply ignore me. Elijah rolled his eyes and leaned towards his face.

"Now you remember your daddy, huh? I ain't going to fall for your pouty lips, young man." Elijah's said in fake anger as Karl immediately pushed his face in nook of my neck before he mumbled something, I didn't understand.

"Don't scare my boy, dadda." I fake scolded Elijah as Karl shook in my arms. I knew he was laughing.

"This little cunning man, sealing my sunshine from me." Elijah said before wrapping his arm around me and pulling me towards his chest and ruffling Karl's hairs.

"Well, well! I would've paid millions to witness a scene like this." I rolled my eyes as Elijah sighed before pulling away and I patted Karl's back.

"Well, look who do we have here, the unwanted guest." Elijah mumbled last words in his mouth receiving a slap on his head.

"Ouch!" He groaned as I looked behind him.

"Well, hello Sarah. How was your stroll?" She asked enthusiastically as she took almost sleeping Karl from my hands before putting him in his crib. I kinda like Karl sleeping in my arms.

"It was amazing-"

"If we minus seeing grumpy Nicholas, then it was epic." Elijah butted in.

"What? That bastard again bothered you. Do you what me to rip his heart out?" She said.

I shook my head almost immediately.

"No!"

"If he wasn't doing us a favor by hiding our scents, I would've killed him the moment he threatened you." Elijah scoffed looking at me as he again plopped his.self on the couch h before grabbing Karl's almost unrecognisable drawing.

"He wasn't threatening me, he was just asking for a favor." I shrugged my shoulders before sitting on the smooth carpet beside Elijah.

"Yeah, yeah! Whatever...if pinning you against the wall with a k ofe on your throat is considered as asking for favor, then I think I might need a favor or two from him!" He snarled angrily but lowered his voice as I pointed towards Karl.

"Change the topic, please. I'm tired." I objected when I saw her sitting next to me. She grabbed my hands and squeezed them assuringly.

"Nothing's going to happen to you. I'm with you and Elijah's here too. And most importantly you've your little knight in shinning armor there sleeping loudly." I chuckled as I felt Elijah's hand on my shoulder as I looked up at him.

"She's right."

I nodded my head and guessed down the unceratinity. I had them and they had me.

"Thankyou, Victoria." I mumbled leaning in her touch. She hugged dme back as I rubbed dher back. She was with us from the moment Elijah suggested to let Victoria know about us coming back to life. And Victoria agreed and left behind her brothers to stay with us. We found Nicholas in this city when we first started living here. He was a good man at first but his greed for more money and unwanted things made us hate him more and more.

Being a warlock, we asked him to mask out scent and existence so that no other with h could find us but in return he started asking for things like blood of vampire, magic flowers, some dangerous herbs along with money and other things.

But now he was getting out of line, by bringing Karl into this.

I loved that boy too much to let any danger linger above him.

Victoria pulled back and looked at Karl's crib.

"He's such a heavy sleeper." Victoria mused and I chuckled. He was a heavy sleeper.

"He reminds me of him." She mumbled ans I knew what she meant.

He indeed looked like him.

"I wish he was here to witness his little boy growing up." She said and sadness washes dover her. We all were here broken and shattered ans Karl was the one piece our pieces together.

"He is proud of his son." I said.

"And I wonder when will he start calling me mother!" Victoria rolled her eyes dramatically as I laughed at hr remark.

It was right Karl was her son but he never called her mama instead he called me mamma and Elijah, dadda.

"Maybe if you'll start spending more time here instead of working your ass off." Elijah objected And Victoria rolled her eyes.

"Yeah! Like the payment will get paid on their own." She groaned.

"I can offer help! I told you, I can work." I suggested but shut my mouth when their piercing gazes fell on me.

"You are supposed to be dead, Sarah and that's why I don't want you or Elijah to longer outside in broad daylight. We can't risk your lives anymore." She was right. We couldn't afford to let out existence know.

"Ahh! Can I say something?"

"What now, loser?"

"I...I went to bar yesterday." Elijah muttered and the low tone of his voice told me, it was more than that.

"Night's fine, wet sock." She insulted him as she grabbed cushion from couch.

"In the afternoon." Victoria and I immediately looked at him as he smiled sheepishly.

"You what?!"
