25th December 1991.

Potter Manor.

Harry pov:

Harry for the first time in his life returned home for the Christmas holidays to celebrate with his family. Even as he was boarding the train at Hogsmead Station Harry was still having trouble believing it.

Harry took the train with his mother and Rose as his brother Charlie decided to stay in school for the holidays. Partly because his brother wants to stay with his friends Neville and Ron but also because he is afraid of returning home to their Grandmother after causing trouble at school.

So Harry and Rose rode the train back alongside their mother. Mom could have used the floo to return home instantly but instead chose to take the train with them. All professors have limited access to the school floo network so they can use the floo to travel between their house and the school. Even though it was unnecessary but Harry couldn't help but feel happy to have such a caring mother.

Only after being back in his home for a few days did Harry realise just how much he missed his family. He missed seeing the twins bickering at the breakfast table, he missed little Lily following him around the house and clinging to him whenever she has the chance, he missed the happy smile his grandfather gives him every time he sees him, he even missed his mother's nagging and his father's corny jokes.

Harry can't but feel a little bittersweet because Hogwarts is no longer his home, his home is here with his family. Harry has known this for years but only now that suddenly became very apparent to him.

While Harry was just lying on his bed stuck in his own head with the afternoon sun shining through his window, when with a crack Sally the house-elf appeared in his room. The house-elf informed him that his grandmother is expecting him in her study.

Harry washed his face to clear his head before making his way to his grandmother's study.

Harry entered the study and found his grandmother sitting at her desk going through some papers as a small pile of files covered a part of her desk.

Harry also found two cups of steaming hot tea sitting on the desk as he sat on the chair in front of his grandmother's desk. Harry picked up his cup and took a sip of the freshly brewed tea without disturbing his grandmother.

Harry silently enjoyed the tea and let his grandmother do her work. Grandmother continued to go through the papers while occasionally taking a sip from her cup.

Harry just sat there waiting for his grandmother to finish, his grandmother is always busy near the end of the year as she is the one who looks after and approves all of House Potter's finances and investments. While their house doesn't directly operate their own business but being a house with more than two thousand years of history we have large stakes in the businesses run by other wealthy Houses. Aside from that, his grandmother is also the one who is presiding over House Black's seat in wizengamont.

So Harry just looked around the room, since Potter Manor is so big every adult member of their family has a private chamber in the house, his mother has her enchanting lab filled with all of her engraving and enchanting tools and projects, his grandfather has his own study which is filled with his Quidditch collection and has his own Mirror Tv, grandfather's study is also warded for privacy because he mostly uses the chamber to watch Quidditch or hide from grandmother when she is angry.

Harry and his siblings are not even allowed to enter their father's study because of all of the confidential files and documents kept inside. But even with all of this most of the rooms inside the manor are still empty.

"I thought you were going to keep a low profile in school, what happened with that?" His grandmother suddenly asked as she signed the document before closing the file in front of her.

Harry stayed silent while his grandmother continued "I believe your exact words were, I am going to blend into the background"

His grandmother then opened one of her drawers and pulled out a stack of letters before tossing them on her desk. "These are all the letters I received congratulating me on having such a prodigious grandson." Harry still stayed silent.

"I know that you don't like the attention and you don't change your mind easily. So why go through all of this trouble for someone you barely know?" His grandmother casually asked.

"I couldn't just stand there and do nothing. And after the incident on the first night there was really no point in hiding my proficiency with magic. So I just did my own thing after that."

Grandmother smiled "of course, you couldn't hold yourself back, you are a Potter we don't stand for injustice no matter the circumstances. That's why our house always finds itself in all kinds of messes."

"Now what this about you running the Slytherin house?" She asked.

Harry ran his hand through his hair in embarrassment "It just sort of happened on its own."

Grandmother nodded "I was actually expecting this to happen just not so soon. I figured it would happen by your second or third year but like always Harry you surpassed my expectations"

"You were expecting this, why? You know I have no interest in making others do my bidding and I can barely tolerate them buzzing around me like flies."

"I do know that but Harry you also won't let anyone else rule over you. With you being in Slytherin there was no other possible outcome." His grandmother answered with a smile.
