Why Is She Here?!

My eyes were as big as dinner plates when I saw who was hanging from the tree outside the window. It was horrifying to see that. Not only was it just plain creepy to hang from a tree similar to an overgrown bat, but it was also worrying to see the Valkyrie after ditching me a few hours ago.

I glanced over to Bryan, who was still snoring the night away. I then rushed over to the window to open it. The Valkyrie gestured me to come out instead, but I was still skeptical about it. After all, she could be fooling me again. Somehow, she shrank...

While still hanging from the branch, she became smaller, like a toddler. I had no clue she could do that?

"Notice. Mavislin is not in her true form as a Valkyrie and uses a human guise. In short, she can manipulate the body's age. If need be, she can become a toddler to earn the sympathy of other humans. Or, to establish authority, she can grow to be an adult."

Alright, now that's something you don't see every day. It reminded me of an anime... Mavislin looked at me with baby eyes and dropped from the branch. Then, without missing a heartbeat, I launched myself out of the room, through the window, and onto the grassy floor.

I managed to catch her on time, but my back was used as a child's landing pad. The Valkyrie weighed lesser than I expected like she was a real human baby.

"Ow... I'm going to feel that all week..." I complained, trying to get my face out of the grass.

Who knew the taste of grass could be so disgusting? I didn't, and I never thought that one day I'd be eating some. Mavislin got off my back and sat on the grass, with legs stretched outwards. I finally got up and began dusting myself.

I then turned to the little Valkyrie with rump on the grass, with a face filled with anger. She got shocked as I stuck out my arms to hold her up to my height. I made sure I wasn't hurting her by gripping her hip. She blinked a few times as I maintained my angered gaze.

"Yay! Cushion! You came out to play!" cheered the oblivious little Valkyrie.

"That was dangerous! What happens if I don't come out?! Then you'll be hurt! But, honestly, think before you go jumping off from things!" I scolded, furrowing my eyebrows.

She stopped cheering and laughing as I yelled at her. She then stuck out her bottom lip and pouted with tears threatening to fall.

"But I wanted to play... So why won't anyone play..." sniffed the little one.

"Well, the reason is simple. Everyone's asleep, and it's the dead of the night. So no one should be up around this time, especially when it comes to a little one like you!" I scolded once more, ignoring that she was about to cry.

She then cried but was quickly silenced by me, bringing her into my chest. I held her in my arms, gently rocking her back and forth. My arms knew what to do the moment I pulled the child close. Since I took care of my baby brother for over four years, I should remember.

"Don't cry, baby... Time to sleep, no need for tears anymore... Tomorrow is another day, and we can play more, okay? Cry and cry and cry... Why do you have so many tears? Where'd they all come from? You can create a water supply with the number of tears you've got."

The endless cries within the nights... He wants to sleep but can't find the right spot leading to him getting frustrated. Or when he plays too much in the day and ends up having trouble sleeping. I continued to hum a soft tune that I knew from my previous life in hopes of cooing the Valkyrie.

It seemed to work as she stopped crying and calmed down. But reality slapped me hard in the face as I realized I was holding onto a baby Valkyrie, not my baby brother. She won't be sleeping anytime soon, so she just had a pair of tear-ridden eyes looking at me.

She then snuggled closer, tugging on my top. It was a subtle sign to continue rocking her, but I shook my head. I placed an index finger on my mouth and made a 'shh' sound while bringing her towards the hut.

I climbed through the window and back into the room, where we still had leftover soup on the ground and a sleeping Slayer on the bed. I placed baby Mavislin on the bed, right beside Verna. However, the Valkyrie shook her head vigorously and extended her arms out once more.
