Currency And Earnings

"Alright. The way you earn is based on how many missions you go on. The higher the level of risk, the more pay you are granted. However, you'll earn a fixed earning per month as a secure way of living."

"For instance, if you get a month of rest, you won't get any earnings from missions. This situation is where the fixed earning comes in handy. But no matter what, the fixed earnings are always given by me every month. So I can negotiate with you on that."

"However, the pay from the missions is not by me. On the board, if you read the missions, they'll state the number of earnings they offer. Sometimes it's not in currency. Some missions will give you weapons, ores, or other valued items. Is that clear for you?"

So I've got a basic salary, and most of my earnings are from commissions, which are the missions I go on. But how much more is my question or is it an equal amount?

"Sorry, I've got a question. Are my fixed earnings and mission earnings around the same? Or it differs," I asked, raising my hand slightly.

"It's almost the same if you go by the normal way. Either two Major or four Minor missions would be the same as your fixed earnings. But switch it up. You might earn more or less. I can't guarantee how much they put in for missions. That's up to the Headmaster to decide."

"If I do more missions, the extra pay would come from you or the extra missions I've done?"

"The extra work pay would be by me. By right, the fixed earning you are granted can only be agreed with the Headmaster. But since I'm the only one who hasn't established my Ark's members yet, he's granted me full use of the budget I've got without needing his permission."

"So I'm quite flexible when it comes to negotiation."

Sounds quite alright. Though I prefer not to be so dependent on the missions, I have to say it is quite a deal.

"So, how much would you like your fixed earnings to be?" asked Mavislin, finishing the entire pot.

Whoa, how hungry can she be?! Anyways, back to the question of my salary. I have utterly no clue about what currency these people use.

"Notice. The people of this world choose to either barter for goods or use pieces of metal to get what they desire. Your idea of 'Dollar' is their 'Silver Piece.' And your idea of 'Cents' is the same as their 'Copper Piece.' Thus, a hundred copper pieces are equivalent to one silver piece."

Then how about the exchange rate between the Domains? Again, I'm sure there are some differences.

"Notice. Due to the alliance of the Five Kings, all Domains have agreed to use the same currency. Therefore, Commoners use both Copper and Silver PIeces frequently."

That's quite alright for a world filled with Magecraft.

"Your fixed earnings will be three Gold Pieces. However, if I see you going on more missions with a success rate of over 90 percent, I'll increase it by double. So you'll earn six Gold Pieces if you fulfill the above requirements. That should be quite a deal, don't you think?" asked Mavislin, smiling from ear to ear.

Oi, Words Of the World. You told me there are only two types of currency used. What are Gold Pieces?

"Notice. Gold Pieces are normally owned by the rich and noble. You cannot use it to trade for goods within villages. The reason being that each Gold Piece is equivalent to a thousand Silver Pieces."

Hey... Hey... Hey! Hang on a moment! Why would she be paying me nearly three thousand dollars as a newcomer? I don't need the overtime pay anymore if I do the bare minimum. Unless you tell me an apple costs five Silver Pieces, there's no need to give me that much!

Also, didn't she mention that my earnings from missions would be the same as my fixed earnings if I did the minimal way? That's overkill. Why am I getting paid so much?

"Notice. According to the database, paying three Gold Pieces by the Arks is the standard for all Pillars. However, since Mavislin has a small department, the budget is divided between the few members she has recruited. Therefore, other members of the Arks' pay are different."

That sounds like the fairest thing I've ever seen. If it were my time, my previous life, everyone's pay would be different despite being in the same rank or doing the same things.

"It is quite a deal, and I am honored that you are offering that high... But are there any downsides to this? Other than the obvious..." I replied, still trying to wrap my head around everything.
