Search For A Dollhouse

This speech was the first time Mavislin sounded so concerned and had spoken so much like an adult. It was hard to see the Valkyrie saying so many details since she was pretty young compared to the rest of the Mages.

I guess most of them don't take the Valkyrie for the fact she has been in this world, roaming about years before any of them met each other. But unfortunately, the people around her don't credit the poor Valkyrie with her experience and adventures in this realm.

"Whatever it is, we are on our way there. We can find it out from Vernice once we confront her. Let's do so tomorrow instead since we've got a new member in our group. Come along, Lizzie. Let's get you back to the Old Chapel to go over our plans," said Z, keeping the picnic.

"Wait, so you're allowing me to join this mission? Would Bryan be coming along?" I asked excitedly.

"Of course! You've got most of the information about the case despite us not knowing about it. And you seem so enthusiastic to go on your first mission. I'd say if I don't allow you to, I might regret my decision. Or, you would've sneaked your way into the area," replied Z.

"As for Bryan coming along, I would have to confront the Slayer about this incident and why he did not bring it up to me beforehand. I won't scold him, but I need to firm my underling. What would have happened if Bryan took up the job and got into serious trouble?"

"It might seem small to some, but the smallest of things can trigger the biggest of problems. By the way, how did the Duchess and Bryan tell each other about the incident? It doesn't sound as if the information gathered were from a single letter," asked Mavislin, glancing at me.

"Vernice Midford titled the letters under the codename 'Search For A Dollhouse' so that no one would know about the information being passed to Bryan. Dollhouse was also the same name given to the house that the mysterious man had built because it looks like one," I explained.

I was so happy to follow the two Mages into the dense forest. Never would've I thought that I would be heading into the Old Chapel with the Founders. Of course, I should be used to these kinds of moments, but somehow, I can't contain my excitement about heading into a fantasy house.

In the novel, the Old Chapel was an area dedicated to the Founders seeking a home during the fall of the Congregation. It was said to be quite mysterious and ever-changing since the Old Chapel was known to have a soul of some sort. Like, Vania taking consciousness.

As we trudged through the thick forest, I began to have fears about getting lost. I never liked going into the woods since I was not too fond of the sight of bugs or getting lost. At some point in a forest, I would always end up looking around to find that everything around me seemed the same.

I would then get dizzy and sit down... Yea, I'm not much of an adventurous person. I prefer the comfort of my bed, reading my novels and playing games. I think I was starting to breathe a little faster and heavier as the forest began growing thicker.

"It's okay, I've got you. Don't be afraid of getting lost. Nothing in the forest near the Old Chapel is lethal. Even if you get lost, we can still find you," said Mavislin, gently grasping my hand.

"How did you know I was afraid about getting lost?" I asked, shocked at Mavislin tugging onto my arm.

"Well, you were emitting a powerful scent of fear, and you looked quite lost the moment we entered the denser part of the woods. It's not hard for me to tell you that you are scared of being lost. I've seen human kids act like you when they are terrified."

"Unfortunately, however, some of the kids from the village would wander too far into the woodlands. And the villagers would ask me to find those little adventurers. They're kids, so I would greet them in my child form and form the game to get them out of place," replied Mavislin, smiling.

"What's the game? Why don't you grab them and go?" I asked, perplexed.

The Valkyrie looked at me with shock and distressed eyes. I bet Mavislin was contemplating about ditching me in the forest right there and then.

"I can't grab them and go, and they would start freaking out. And most of the creatures in the forest are alarmed by sound. Any foreign sound that can pierce through the forest's sound barrier and wake everyone up."
