I knew from the start that the Beast was not acting normal since its roars sounded like cries of pain instead of a mighty roar to advance into the land. My eyes softened as I placed my hand onto the Beast's snout to comfort it.
When activating the King's Signal Cannons, I could make out that there are streams of unknown Elemental Energy tying the Beast somewhere else. And I used the treasures to sever the chains, but the creature's mind was too far gone.
It wasn't easy to see with my normal vision, but it was pretty clear when I switched to a mode that could highlight Elemental Energy in my sights.
"Hey... You are free now—no need to worry anymore. I'm not sure if you still have a body to return to, but if you do, let a small growl for me to know, and I can return you into the ocean where you belong. Or else-"
My voice was cut off by the slow blink of the dying creature. Then, finally, it opened its mouth to say something, which surprised me since I didn't know it could talk.
"No need to do so, Young Soul. My True Self has been slain and left to rot in the ocean's depths for nearly a thousand years. I never thought to see a day I could be killed off by someone as beautiful and elegant as you. You remind me of a Valkyrie from my legends..."
"Alas, you have defeated me, so I'll allow you to take whatever you can harvest from this fake body of mine. Also, I think this hunk of meat should be enough to satisfy your group's hunger," explained the Jörmungandr, between shallow breaths.
I smiled and sat beside the giant talking head with a hole at the top.
"Nah, mate... That ain't happening since you are connected to my main enemy for the Mission I am doing now. And I'm not one to bully prisoners, so rest assured, I won't force you to make a decision now. But it would help us greatly if you could tell us what happened and why you were here."
"You are known to the younger generations as the Great World Serpent of Midgard. A creature said to be so large that it can coil around Earth and bite its tail. By right, you were supposed to be killed by your arch-nemesis, Thor, God of Thunder."
"So how did you come here, and why did a third-rate Mage catch you?" I questioned, looking at the monster.
"Ah... So you wish to know how a legendary Beast like me gets caught by a weakling such as Fabian Brookes? It was a bold assumption to say that the tiny thing caught me. Initially, the rich Mage wanted to use me as a guard of sorts for the waters around his 'private' island."
"As you can imagine, I had woken up from my deep slumber and was being tied to some unseen force to obey this Brookes person. His Magecraft might be strong against small fries like Humans or Harpies, but it will never be enough to tame the likes of me."
"The one who killed me was a being called a 'Corrupted One.' He had strength and power like no other. If given a chance, I'd rather run away than face that Beast. I fear no creature, but the devil is a different matter. So do not try to seek the being who wronged me if you value your life."
"Don't worry, I still have got all my dogs barking up here, so I won't be doing that so soon... But I am curious why you continued your rampage towards the Teuton Domain?"
"That's simple; I was confused and in a blind rage. The Corrupted One had forced me to go to the nearest land to find fresh food. However, I should've been diving down to find food since I can only grow in size and power using seafood. Instead, the Corrupted One is trying to use to get to the Humans."
"He said that the Humans were better in creating the Husks, whatever those things are. One thing you do not have to worry about, dear child, is the strength of Fabian Brookes as a Mage. He is a coward that uses pawns to his advantage to get what he wants."
"Do you know what his Element is? Or are you unable to discern it?"
"Sadly, I didn't get enough time to do so. But I don't think it's a threat to you. Alright, that should settle all your questions. I have one for you since that's the most I can ask from you when you've blown a hole in my head," replied the sassy sea serpent of the Midgard seas.
