Having Only Skills

"Because no one wants to work with a misfit like me. I mean... There's another reason why the Arks' Mage would have fired arrows at me. I don't have a proper Element and instead rely on Skills as my main power. And coupled with my wings of death, I might as well be the villain of this book!"

Hey, hey, hey now! Don't stir up beef in an empty pot as a vegetarian!

"Wait... I'm concerned now... A Mage can be one even if they can only use Skills and no main Element?" I questioned, intrigued about this fact.

Come to think of it... I don't have a main Element, right? I use whatever Elements given to me when I died and was transported here. From then on, I used Avarice to eat up whatever foes or spells I was against.

"The pure definition of being a Mage means to use Magecraft, not always using a solid Element. You don't have to have a main Element to call yourself a Mage. For example, Mavislin doesn't have a main Element although her race is known for being the Element of Light."

"She prefers to use Fire to attack or Water to defend. Or, best yet, Mavislin relies on the Alter version of the Heaven's Wheel Spells to defeat dangerous opponents. The Alter versions are the spells tainted with darkness and use the despair of everyone around her to activate."

"I think Vincent having no Element to use would be better for him in the long run since no one would know how to counter him during a fight. But I am curious; I heard from others who have faced you that you rely on guns and daggers to take our your opponents."

"You don't fight like a Mage or use any Element. You don't have one to start with, so I understand, but why do you choose to fight a human when you've Skills to summon the Goddess Ishtar?" asked the Slayer, fascinated about Vincent's choice of life.

"Because I don't know how to control my powers at that point! You were all born in this world with the mindset of being a Mage or human, nothing in between. Sure, you are a human Mage, but you are the descendant of a Galaxian Mage. It's in your blood before you can think."

"Though you had a relapse in your memories, once you've regained it, you have no problem switching to Magecraft mode since your body and mind were already built for it! But, on the other hand, I'm a person from a world without Magecraft."

"Sure, my body may have been reconstructed to fit this place but not my mind. It's like giving a fish wings in the next life with all its old memories as a swimming organism still fresh in its mind! There's no way I could've adapted, so I could only rely on past Skills as an assassin."

"I don't know when my powers would go out of control and destroy the place I was meant to protect, nor will I know if I would die after using too much of my Elemental Energy. So I only know how to use my Skills relatively late to the party... And that's how I helped Duncan and Lizzie."

"Though, I wished I could have used it at maximum power. Oh, and speaking about that fight... I've got a souvenir to give you, Lizzie. It would be great to use it with your 'Eating' Skill. Though, I wished I could make armor out of it instead..."

"But it wouldn't make sense to keep the loot away from the same person who fought so many foes to reach the final boss. So here," said Vincent, as he pulled out something from the inner pocket of his coat.

It was a piece of the Qilin's spine! Legend has it that any part of the Qilin's body would be excellent protection against Mother Nature's Elements or even creatures lower ranked than itself. Sometimes, it can even bring good luck to the wearer, but I'm not sure about that.

I gingerly touched it as I found it beautiful, shining in different shades of purple and black. It was like holding a beautiful gem! I can't believe that Vincent managed to salvage this from the blast. But... I didn't deserve it when he and Duncan were the ones who slayed the Beast.

I shook my head and shoved it back to Vincent, shocking the poor man.

"I can't take this! You were the one who wanted it, right? So you need it more than me, especially to make armor. I've got enough loot in my backpack so that you can take this one!" I yelled, squeezing my eyes shut.

I reopened my eyes to see Vincent chuckling as he ruffled my hair.
