I tilted my head enough to see her face but I jerked back as soon as I saw her eyes completely glazed white.
"It is okay Cris he is just Freddy!" I tried to get through to her but she was not ready to give up yet.
"Yes! He is just old mean Freddy. No matter how hard we try to live our life he will always be standing in front of us! Did you see how we found this new place and yet here he is?" She grunted.
She gripped the ax firmly with both hands and hit the door with all her might.
Shawn was worried so he approached her placing his hand on her shoulder but a strange force came out of her body, something like a lightning blow that pushed Shawn away so hard that he crashed into the wall and fell unconscious.
When Shawn opened his eyes he found Dominique in front of him, his head was still spinning, "Are you okay?" Dominique asked.
Meanwhile, I was scared but I could not just leave my friend, especially in that situation when she did not even know what was happening to her, I gently rubbed her shoulder.
"It is alright Cris, He is just a bully" I whispered.
"You are right! He is a bully!" She grunted and backed her arms again in order to hit the rest of the wooden pieces hanging over the door.
"It is not worth it!" I whispered again caressing her shoulder all the way to her hand until I was able to get a grip on the axe she was holding.
She fell down and held her head, closing her eyes "Oh my head" She moaned.
And when she opened her eyes they were back to normal and as soon as she realize what just happened she pushed herself using her palms as far away from the axe as possible.
"Hey hey!" I caught her and held her tightly.
"What the hell just happened?" There was sweat all around her face, and she was not the only one that was scared.
What happened frightened all of us badly and especially me, because I was the one who brought them here in the first place.
We quickly walked out of that place, I am pretty sure we have never walked in such a hurry before.
We rushed back to our places, dropping Shawn, then Dominique, and then Cris at her place.
My home was a few steps away from hers so I managed back on my own.
It was another sleepless night for us, we stayed up all night, and right when I began drifting off, the alarm clock started ringing.
I stood up with my eyes half closed and took a shower, this was the only thing that could wake me up.
I had no idea that the night we spent at the other side of the school was only just the beginning.
When I reached the school I saw my friends already standing in front of the school.
Cris was shaking like crazy, and when I got closer I realized there were police in the school.
Before I could say or ask anything Cris began mumbling "I killed him! Zee, I killed him!" She was sweating.
"Calm down! You killed who?" I held her with her shoulders.
"Keep it down!" Shawn whispered and stepped forward "One of the students found Fredrick's body by the pool, police say he was attacked by a sharp tool many times!" He explained.
"Sharp tool! I had that sharp tool! Axe!" Cris whispered.
"It is not possible!" I tried to calm her down.
"But Zee, the Axe!" She kept repeating it over and over again.
"This proves nothing! This explains nothing!" I gritted my teeth, pulling her hand as I saw a man in a police uniform approaching us.
"Just do not tell him anything about the last night" I whispered.
"Who is Zinnia James?" He asked.
I stepped forward.
"Miss James, I am Sheriff Isaac Smith. I want to ask you some questions" He cleared his throat.
I was frightened, to be honest, but I did not let them know, this is what I have learned since the day my father died, to conceal my emotions.
"I heard you got into a fight with Fredricks because of a prank the other day?" He raised an eyebrow, holding a small writing pad and a pen, ready to write down whatever came out of my mouth.
"It was not a fight exactly? He scared me to death at night and I am new here…" I was still clarifying myself when I realized the actual reason he was asking me that question.
"Wait a minute!" I folded my arms and frowned "You do not think that I killed him just because of a silly prank, do you?" Even if this is what I actually wanted to do that night I could not possibly have killed him.
"No! No… Of course not!" He stammered and laughed with embarrassment "You can go now!" He proceeded with his interrogation with everyone else, and I somehow felt deeply that Cris would mess it all up, but to my surprise, she covered it pretty well.
We got together in the canteen and discussed what we were going to do next.
We could not attract everyone's attention toward us so we decided to stay normal and meet in front of the warehouse in the evening.
So when the time came we were all there in front of the warehouse, except for Shawn "Where is Shawn?" I looked around.
A minute later we saw Shawn limping toward us.
"Where have you been? What happened to you?" Dominique asked.
"I think you all forgot I was smacked against the wall by a woman!" Shawn gave Cris a blank stare.
"Have you looked at yourself? You are a big guy I can not possibly pick you up or even pushing you could get my muscle pulled" She smirked with sarcasm.
"But you did! Everyone saw you do that!" Shawn stared at her.
"You know what? Maybe you deserved it!" She was angry now but before the fight could actually begin Dominique jumped in between and reminded them of our actual purpose of being there.
"We are not here to fight each other, we are here to clean the mess we made!" He is always good at calming people down or talking some sense into them.
We entered the warehouse just to find it as clean as ever, we repeated everything we did last time, and we entered the office where the first aid box was.
"So what is the plan?" Shawn asked.
"I think we should destroy the main door so no one enters and makes the same mistake we made!" Dominique spoke up but I interrupted him.
"Are you forgetting that a destroyed door turned out to be a death sentence for one of the students? Destroying the main door can kill the entire school which also includes us!" He agreed with me.
"Besides, breaking the door will only make it easier for others to enter!" I added.
"So what do we do?" He asked.
"We are going to destroy something, but it is not the door!" I clenched my fist while I gazed at the first aid box, this was the thing that could help anyone enter the dark side of the school.
"But with what? Our fists?" Shawn passed a sarcastic smile.
I looked around until I found a fire extinguisher, before I could pick it up my eyes fell on a symbol on the wall behind the chair and desk on the left.
Cris walked close to me and started to think "I have seen this symbol somewhere else?" She tried to remember.
I took out my pendant from under my shirt and showed her "You have seen it around my neck!" It was a bird with a stone in its claws.
But the difference those two symbols had was the color and the item it was holding.
The one on the wall was holding something like a gear but circular and the design was more decorative, and a circular space in the middle and it had a golden color.
Meanwhile, the one around my neck was silver and it always seemed shiny, as if it was throwing out a bluish-white neon light and it had this blue stone in its claws.
This necklace was my father's, when I was little my father told me that this stone is called Blue Quartz and has some healing properties, I believed that as a kid.
But when I saw my Father dying I realized it was nothing more than a fairy tale but I kept it anyway because it was the only thing I had left of him, the one that I could keep closer to myself.
"What is it doing here?" Cris held my arm.
"I do not know, I have as many questions as you have right now but…" I lowered my eyes.
"You do not have to do this if you do not want to." Dominique stepped closer.
"No! We can not let anyone else find this place, Dad used to say: Sometimes there's a reason why secrets are left secrets" I closed my eyes and picked up the extinguisher.
I gripped the extinguisher as hard as I could and struck the first aid box with all force, but to our surprise, it stayed as it was, it seemed untouched.
I gritted my teeth with anger and started hitting it over and over again, I was so blinded by the anger and rage that all I could see was that first aid box and all I could hear was the thudding of my own heart striking my ears.
I kept hitting it so hard that I could not even realize my friends calling my name, in the end, two hands grabbed my shoulders and pulled me toward them, it was Dominique.
I gazed at his face like a baby, I hid my face inside his jacket my forehead against his chest, and began to cry.
"It is alright, you are alright!" His gentle voice was calming me slowly.
He let me cry for a while "This is all because of me! I finally had the chance to move on and finally found new friends but I ruined it again, I always mess up everything wherever I go, if it was not for me you guys would have been out there enjoying your night like normal teenagers."
I was sobbing when a hand gently rubbed my head and a voice fell on my ears "Zee, you are not the reason why we came here" It was Cris she whispered.
"I mean it was… Kind of her fault" Shawn attempted his cheap trick to make me laugh, and it actually did the trick, I giggled while I wiped my tears with my sleeve.
Cris smacked him in his ribs with her elbow "Not helping!" She gritted her teeth.
"Oh! You are so evil, Cris? First my leg and now you are planning to break my ribs?" Shawn responded dramatically.
"You better shut your mouth and the next thing I'll be hitting with my elbow is your eye." Cris stared at him and turned back to me.
"What we all are trying to say is… we are friends and if one faces a problem we all stand together, we do not turn our back on our friends." She hugged me and I really felt better.
"But what are we going to do now?" I stammered.
"We are exactly going to do what any normal teenager would do! We are going out together and we will be enjoying our night." Dominique Pulled me by my shoulders.
We all smiled at each other and headed to grab a snack.
