Nothing Lasted

"You're right. All the phone calls must be getting to me," Vincent said rather than explaining himself properly.

He wasn't acting like himself. He hadn't been ever since Maya managed to worm her way into his comfort zone and make herself at home there. He didn't know how to kick her out and wasn't sure he could even if he wanted to.

"Hang in there. It'll be over before you know it. You'll be back to staying up all night in the garage rather than in your office in no time," she said as she resumed jumping rope.

He took this as a dismissal and was oddly disappointed. He did need to get back to work though so he began to make his way out of the room before pausing. He didn't want her to think that he hadn't liked being checked on because he had. He needed to make that clear now or he wouldn't be able to concentrate.

"I suppose you're right. Feel free to check on me tomorrow too."
