SHE WON'T LIVE LONG

"What do you mean by your sister's short life in this world?" Wen Xiang immediately asked the question after hearing Xue Tian's unexpected statement.

He was confused because Xue Tian's mood suddenly changed drastically, but he didn't know what caused the man to experience the sudden mood change.

Meanwhile, Xue Tian refused to look at his eyes and chose to stare at the boring floor under their feet. "My sister has a disease, and she won't live long," he answered in a low voice.

Wen Xiang gasped in surprise. "What? Your sister is sick? But she looks healthy just now. What disease does she have?"

Xue Tian finally looked up at the taller man and stared intently at the brown orbs owned by Wen Xiang. The latter could see the doubtful hint on the pair of the blue eyes. He didn't know much about the pink-haired man, and he couldn't read what was on the man's mind.

"I shouldn't have told you about that," Xue Tian finally replied as he drew his gaze away from the other man. "You said that we should remain as strangers, right? So, I shouldn't have told you about that. I'm sorry because I was rambling nonsense in front of you earlier. You don't need to play along with me in front of Summer. You can explain the real situation to her if you want to."

Xue Tian was hiding something from him, but Wen Xiang knew that he didn't have the right to pry on the pinkette's private life. It was him who said that they were only strangers, so he shouldn't question the pinkette any further.

They should stay outside the border and shouldn't try to cross each other lines.

"I'm back, Brother!"

They could hear the familiar shout from the front of the house, and both of them turned their heads simultaneously to the side. The next thing they could see was Summer running towards them.

"How many times do I have to tell you for not running around, Summer? What if you get sick again!" Xue Tian immediately reprimanded the girl as he held the girl's shoulder.

Wen Xiang furrowed his brows when he heard Xue Tian's words. 'Summer even got sick just because she was running around? What disease does she have?' He was curious, but he didn't voice his curiosity.

The raven-haired man remained quiet, but he silently observed Summer Xue's appearance. He just noticed that the girl looked rather skinny, and her face was even paler than before.

"Maybe it's my fault for asking you to go outside to buy the tea. Now you look so tired already," Xue Tian spoke again, and this time, he sounded so guilty.

Wen Xiang scolded Xue Tian earlier because the latter had the heart to ask the little girl to go outside alone to buy some tea, and that man looked guilty right now.

Probably the pinkette didn't think that his sister would run because she was too enthusiastic, and now the girl looked exhausted with a layer of sweat on her forehead.

"I won't get sick, brother," the girl assured her brother. "I'm not tired, and I'm just hungry. How about we eat our lunch now?"

Summer Xue always knew how to coax her brother, and the said brother smiled while lifting his hand to ruffle the girl's brown locks.

"Just wait on the dining table like a good girl, alright? I will prepare your food in a bit," Xue Tian instructed the little girl, and the girl nodded her head before handing over the tea she just bought.

After that, the girl immediately swung her legs towards the dining table.

"What do you mean by you will prepare Summer's food? I thought she would eat this dish too," Wen Xiang questioned the pinkette as he pointed at the food in the big bowl.

Xue Tian glanced at the bowl before looking up at Wen Xiang again. "Summer doesn't like that food," he answered with a small smile. "I will prepare for her food first, so can you bring that dish to the dining table and wait for me there?"

Wen Xiang knew that he couldn't object to the man's order because he was only the guest in the house, so he could only nod his head before walking towards the dining table.

Summer had been sitting on one of the chairs, and she indeed acted as a good girl just like how her brother instructed her earlier.

Wen Xiang didn't utter any words and just immediately put down the big bowl on the table. He then sat down opposite the brown-haired girl.

The dining room actually was a part of the kitchen, but there was a big cabinet that separated the kitchen and the dining room.

Just like the atmosphere in the living room, the dining room also gave off a traditional vibe with the traditional furniture. When Wen Xiang looked down at the plates and also the glasses on the table, he noticed that those utensils had a traditional design.

They had white as the base color, but on top of the white base was like a random painting in green. And instead of ceramic or crystal, the utensils were made of enamel. Even the big bowl was made of enamel, but it had the painting of three roosters on three sides instead of random green color.

Those utensils didn't look expensive, but for some reason, they looked unique and classy.

"Your food is ready, my Summer," Xue Tian announced as he arrived at the dining table.

In his hands was a bowl, but Wen Xiang could tell that the bowl was made of glass. Wen Xiang frowned when he noticed the difference.

Placing the bowl in front of the little girl, Xue Tian then sat down next to Wen Xiang. The latter was surprised.

'Why did he sit next to me instead of sitting next to his sister?' Wen Xiang wondered as he glanced at Xue Tian, but then he caught a glimpse of Summer's food. 'Isn't that oatmeal? Why does Summer need to eat oatmeal?'
