Chapter 36: Vampire Crushing

Jacques's words and the idea of him biting me heats my skin all over. I don't like vampires, yet I find myself drawn to him, which doesn't make any sense. I can't be crushing on a bloodsucker.

"Have my words offended you?" he asks.

"No." I shake my head, hating the lie. "All of this...I mean you and me in a past life is a little overwhelming. Especially when I-"

"Hate vampires?" His dark eyebrow arches.

My throat dries and a pain blossoms across my chest. "I didn't say that."

"You didn't have to." He moves away from the bed, becoming less visible. "Your emotions play all over your face, just like they did before. Get some rest. You'll need it if we're going to save your friends."

"And you're going to help me?"

"Of course." He bows his head. "I could never resist making you happy in the past and appears that I can't in this life either."
