Chapter 46: Check Your Wand

Five a.m. is way too early to be functional. I trip over a bush as Jezza, Melanie, and I hike to the nearest bus stop that will take us into town. I wore jeans, sneakers, and my favorite pink top. Jezza wore a plain blue skirt and her white polo shirt from school. While Melanie wore ripped jeans and a halter top with a black cardigan sweater. Her black hair with purple highlights curls around her shoulders while Jezza has her braids pinned back. My hair is tied back in a loose ponytail.

The bus is mostly empty, but the driver gives us the stink eye until Jezza shows him our personal holiday papers. By the time we get to my old school, it's after eight a.m.

My legs are bouncing in the seat and I chew on my lip. The bus driver continues down the road to the actual bus stop several streets away from the school.

"Ready?" I say to my friends.

They nod, but Jezza's cheeks are pale. Melanie looks like she's about to throw down.
