Chapter 48: Family Secrets

For a long moment, I stand on Amelia's porch, staring at the closed door. My whole life is one huge tangled mess. And why hadn't anyone told me about Amelia?

There had to be a way to help her with the scars. And since plastic surgery isn't working to cover them up, there had to be a magical reason. I sent a text to Jezza and Melanie asking them if they knew anything that could help Amelia, then I force myself to continue to my old house.

My aunt's car is out front and I sigh in relief. But I wonder if she's angry with me too since she hasn't returned any of my calls or texts over the last few days.

So I don't startle her, I ring the doorbell instead of using my key to get in.

After a few minutes, I worry that she's not home, but then a shadow drifts behind the blinds near the front door.

"Aunt Grace, it's me, Brene," I call out.

The door creaks open and a shiver snakes down my spine. I push the weird feeling aside. It's dark in the house.
